スタート/Start

人生初のオンラインでの生徒ちゃんはfromアメリカだった。
My first ever online student was from the US.

取り敢えずでっかいオンライン語学学習サイトに教師として登録した。
既に1700人以上の日本語教師がそこにいた。
どんな生徒ちゃんが、一体どうやってその巨大サイトから私を見つけて、私のクラスを選んで来てくれるのか、ある意味賭けでもあり見物だった。

I subscribed to a big online learning language site as a start.
There’s about 1,700 Japanese teachers already.
It’s quite interesting for me to see what type of students, how they will find and come to my class with plenty of other options.

生徒ちゃんの名前がめちゃめちゃテイラースウィフトみたいな名前だったから、頭の中で可愛らしいカントリーガールを想像して、授業開始時間を待った。生徒ちゃんのプロフィールには写真が無かった。

The American student didn’t have a picture on the profile, but the name sounded like Taylor Swift, so I just imagined a cute American country girl in my head, and waited for the class time to begin.

ビデオチャットがようやくギリシャとアメリカの時差と距離を越えて繋がった。
でもそこにテイラー･スウィフトはいなかった。
代わりにカニエ･ウエストがいた。

Video chat has finally connected between Greece and the US. 
There’s no Taylor Swift.
There’s Kanye West.

どう見ても私のアメリカンネームの知識不足と豊か過ぎる想像力が原因だった。
Obviously, it's because of my knowledge about American names and my great imagination. 

話し始めてみたらカニエは純粋にめちゃめちゃ良い人で、とってもとってもchillで、日本語を学ぶ意欲もしっかりとある、”良いカニエ”と呼ぶのが申し訳なくなるくらい、”普通にめっちゃええ人やん”だった。

Once we started talking, immediately I was able to recognize that Kanye is genuinely a generous person, super chill, and has a great motivation to learn Japanese. I started feeling guilty calling him  “a good Kanye” inside of me because of his generous personality.
