「縁」を英語で言ってみる❣️

日本人の我々にとって、人間関係はとても大切なものですが、関係を表す特徴的な言葉として「縁」がありますよね。縁があるとかないとか、一体どういうふうに説明したらいいのか迷うこともありますよね！そこで、今日は「縁」を英語で言ってみよう❣️

１．「縁」とは何でしょうか？

緑  縁とは、何事にも起因するものがあるという仏教思想からきています。因果の仲立ちをするのが縁で、社会的関係は何であれ縁で始まり、縁とともに変わります。男女の関係とか近所づきあいとかお得意さんとの取引きがうまくいくのは、縁があってのことなのです。だから、縁のおかげで、人との関係を築いていく機会が与えられるといえましょう。縁があってこそ、物事を順調にとり行うことができるのです。例えば、何らかの事業計画をある官庁に後援してもらおうとすれば、その役所の有力者と面識がなければなりません。面識があるということは、縁があるということなのです。思いがけなくもある所に就職したなどという話を聞きますが、そんな場合にも縁が働いているのです。ところで、日常生活で縁というと、しばしば男女の関係についていいます。適齢期の息子か娘がいる親は、縁談を受けます。結婚へと話がうまく進めば、縁があったといい、うまくいかないと、縁がなかったというものです。

２．「縁」(Karma)を英語で言ってみる❣️

Karma The word "karma" comes from the Buddhist concept that there is a  case for everything. It is karma that mediates between cause and effect, and any social relationship begins with karma and changes with karma. Relationships between men and women, neighbors, and business dealings with customers all go well because of karma. Therefore, we can say that fate gives us the opportunity to build relationships with others. It is only through fate that we are able to do things smoothly. For example, if you want a  government agency to support your business plan, you have to be acquainted with a powerful person in that agency. Being acquainted with someone means that you have a connection with them. I have heard stories of people who unexpectedly find employment in a certain place, and in such cases, fate is also at work. By the way, when we talk about karma in daily life, we often refer to relationships between men and women. Parents who have sons or daughters of the right age accept marriage proposals. If the marriage goes well, it is said that there was a good match; if not, it is said that there was no match.

３． Change in "Karma" in the relationship between men and women

「縁」という言葉は、「縁談」であるとか、男女の関係に関わる言葉がとても多いかなあと思います。最近、男女関係の在り方も変わってきているかな？ということで、ちょっと面白い英文記事を見つけたのでみなさんと共有します。「草食系」ってhervivorous っていうんだーと初めて知りました。ま、昭和な私はcarnivorousなんで関係ないなーって気もします（笑）日本社会全体に影響を及ぼす変化だとも思うので、じっくり読んで考えてくださいね！
