今日の英語ニュースから [2023.02.27]

今日は動画サイトの字幕に多くの誤りや省略があったので（週末版はいつもそうです）、字幕ファイルを作るのはやめて語句の説明だけにしました。下の語句の説明のところの英語は、実際に英語音声を聞いて誤りを訂正し、省略を補足してあります。

いつものような字幕ファイルが必要な人は、リンク先の方法で簡単にできますので自分で作ってください（元の字幕に含まれている誤りや省略はそのままになります）。

週末版の字幕は、翌日以降に比較的正確なものに差し替えられるようです。でも、ニュース番組なので、翌日以降に更新されても…

[11:42] The latest study surveyed more than 30,000 American adults about their sleep medication use in 2020, both prescription and over-the-counter. [* prescription medication = 処方箋薬。 over-the-counter medication (処方箋なしで薬局などで買える)市販薬]

[17:49] John: So, the bottom line [* 結論。一番大切なこと] is that sleep medications should be a band-aid, as you say, short term.
Dr. Lee: Yes, in the appropriate individuals, right? And, we have to make sure there's not something else that's going on, right? And, another concern is that sleep aids can make underlying sleep disorders worse. So, for example, a lot of sleep aids are muscle relaxants [* 筋弛緩薬] and can collapse the airway more, cause more difficulty breathing and sleeping. So, if someone has an underlying disease such as sleep apnea,[* 睡眠時無呼吸] which very commonly causes insomnia, we want to be safe and make sure we're not actually making the issue worse and more unsafe by giving them a sleep aid for the wrong reason instead of treating another issue that's causing their insomnia.

[19:09] Well, John, essentially, as you noted, this law was passed June of 2021, Governor Mike Parson signed it and, essentially, what it does is it prohibits state and local agencies from helping the federal government enforce federal gun laws that, if by Missouri standards, are an infringement on a person's right to bear arms, their Second Amendment right.
