I’d love to continue from where I ended last time.
I mentioned I had started working at a Japanese restaurant, “Rikka,” yesterday. All of my coworkers were Japanese, except for a Chinese chef. However, the customers were Kiwis, so I had many opportunities to speak with them in English.
One day at lunchtime, we had a reservation for someone’s birthday party, and six or seven persons were in their group. One brought a birthday cake in advance, which we kept in our fridge.
At the end of the cuisine, the party’s hostess asked me to bring the birthday cake to the table with lighting candles, and I got it. They sang “Happy Birthday.” Of course, since they knew the star of the birthday’s name and could sing perfectly, they were no need to sing “Happy birthday, dear hmmm,” like my birthday, just in case.
After blowing off the candles, the hostess asked me to cut the cakes into pieces of the number of attendees plus one another. I asked the chef, and then I served them. After serving the cakes, the hostess told me to take the rest of the cake instead of a tip and winked. She added, “If I hand the tip to you, you have to hand it to the owner, right? This cake is for you. Thanks for your hospitality today.” She knew the system of our restaurant well. It was my forgettable memory at “Rikka.”
