■今日の注目語句

[03:43] NICK SCHIFRIN: On Saturday, Israel took matters into its own hands and today released this new video, police and intelligence operatives storming into a Hamas compound in the middle of Gaza in the middle of the day to rescue Israeli hostages, confirmed in Hebrew, including Andrey Kozlov and Almog Meir Jan. But, by then, the Israelis' cover had been blown and they had to shoot their way out.

[04:39] WOMAN (through translator): People in the Arab world are eating our olives and olive oil, and our children are dying in the streets. The world sold us out. My kids died in the streets. God is sufficient for me.

[17:05] Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark is taking the high road following news that she didn't make the cut for the Summer Olympics. The top overall pick in the WNBA draft says she will be rooting for Team USA to win gold in Paris.

[26:41] AMNA NAWAZ: Let's start now with an issue we know Democrats have been leaning into, one we saw former President Trump messaging on today. That is abortion rights. He spoke at the Danbury Institute today. It's an anti-abortion rights conservative Christian group that has compared abortion to child sacrifice.

[31:27] In terms of Biden, I was there with him in France. I'm kind of surprised I'm still standing because I just got back. But he went to that cemetery looking for that split screen, because that World War I cemetery is notable because former President Trump was supposed to go there to mark the end of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. He didn't go. And "The Atlantic" reported that it wasn't just that there was a bad weather call, but that he didn't want to be there, and that he called over that time period people who died in war suckers and losers.

[35:25] And I think that there is an increasing realization that, for multiple election cycles, Democrats talk about demographics as destiny. Demographics aren't destiny, or at least it isn't the same demographics. The idea that Black and Latino voters are just automatically going to vote overwhelmingly for the Democrat may not be the case this time.

[38:01] STEPHANIE SY: Voss says the ban has cut down classroom distractions and increased student achievement. But when it comes to mental health: SHANE VOSS: It's not a panacea to just look at phones and then all of a sudden everything will be fine. I think there are a lot of factors that are attributed to this rise in anxiety and depression, but this has accelerated it, there's no question.

[38:48] STEPHANIE SY: Social psychologist Jonathan Haidt's book "The Anxious Generation has been near the top of bestseller lists for months, stoking debate around how smartphones and social media are, in his words, rewiring childhood and largely to blame for the youth mental health crisis.

[46:15] AMNA NAWAZ: When Stephen Sondheim died in 2021, he was remembered as one of musical theater's all-time greats, creator of masterpieces like "Sweeney Todd" and "A Little Night Music." But one of his musicals, "Merrily We Roll Along," never achieved that success. Now it has, and the show actors and director, Maria Friedman, are all up for Tony Awards this Sunday.

[47:15] JEFFREY BROWN: The material is "Merrily We Roll Along," now on Broadway with rave reviews and star turns by Jonathan Groff as Frank, a composer-turned-film-producer, Daniel Radcliffe as Charley, a playwright, and Lindsay Mendez as Mary, a novelist-turned-theater-critic.

[48:24] MARIA FRIEDMAN: Being in a room with Stephen Sondheim and George Furth rewriting a piece, new songs, new dialogue every day. And Stephen -- everybody knows Stephen Sondheim, when you're working with him, is completely exacting. When you're working with him as an actor, he just drills into your psychology and expects the world from you.
JEFFREY BROWN: How does he do that? I mean, what is it like?
MARIA FRIEDMAN: Like, lots of questions, asking you about, why would you be singing this? And how -- he would offer you the internal dialogue that you need in order to sing the actual material. So, every -- and he had a reason for every single note and lyric he wrote. So I was full up as an actress. It just felt like this was like the greatest gift.

[53:55] What you're seeing right now, this is a brief time-lapse video showing the construction of the studio, which took nearly four years from planning to construction of a new wing at our WETA headquarters and build-out of the new studio.
