Meditation means that…?

Meditation means that there is no object in the mind, and you are left alone with your consciousness, like a mirror that reflects nothing. Therefore, you must remember that meditation is not about focusing your mind on something; it is about emptying your mind of everything and reaching a state where you can say that both your hands are filled with emptiness. The blossoming of emptiness is the supreme experience of life.

Meditation should be somewhat like breathing. Meditation should be something that stays with you throughout the day like a shadow, a peace, a silence, a comfort. And you will be surprised to find that your work, whatever it may be, will transform into meditation. Gradually, every act of your life turns into a meditative act. Then there is a possibility of attaining self-realization. You meditate while walking, you meditate while working, sometimes you meditate sitting quietly, sometimes you meditate lying in bed—meditation becomes your constant companion.

And when meditation becomes your constant companion, keep observing whatever is happening. I call this witnessing. You move with wisdom, but you become a witness while moving, you become a witness while sitting, you watch yourself while eating, and you will be surprised that the more you watch things, the better you can do them, you will experience being stress-free, and then the quality of your life changes. Then you become more immersed in meditation, your life becomes loving and non-violent, it has a grace, and not only will you notice it, but others will start noticing it too. Even those who have nothing to do with meditation, who have never even heard the name of meditation, will see that something within you has changed. The way you walk, the way you talk, there will be a certain grace and a certain silence and a certain peace around you that people will experience in your presence and will want to be with you because you will become nourishing.

You will know that there are people in your life whom you avoid because being with them feels like they are draining you, as if they are pulling your energy and leaving you empty. And after they leave, you feel weak, you feel robbed. But when you become meditative, you will not feel weak or robbed. The exact opposite happens with a meditative person. You will not feel weak or robbed; people will feel fulfilled being with you, the meditator. You will start feeling the change, and so will others. Then what happens is called: the state of witnessing.
