この夏に何かが足りない何かが足りないとずっと考えていましたが、足りなかったのは「部屋の中に入る日陰」でした。

夏になると家にある大きなどんぐりの木が、むくむくと葉を生い茂らせて、こんなに大きかったっけ？と思うほどでしたが、その木のおかげで窓に影ができて、夏は網戸にしていても風が通り抜け、夜になるととても涼しかったです

キラキラと目に映る田んぼの緑、照りつける太陽に灼かれながらもその眩しさが気持ちよかった

けれどその日差しが部屋まで直接差し込んでくると、暑くて快適に過ごせません。

夏の日差しを遮り、冬の日差しを取り込む工夫がされている代表的な建物は、古民家でしょう。

蛍光灯で煌々と照らされる部屋には、全く風情がない。

そういう無機質な感じが私は好きではありません。

季節によって日の当たり方が変わるのを考えて、隅々まで明るいというよりは所々に暗さがあるのがいいです。光と陰が程よいバランスで、調和しているのが魅力です。

古民家や町屋は部屋にたくさんの光を取り込むというより、強い日差しを防ぐような設計になっていると思います。

そのひとつが、夏の日差しを遮る深い軒。そして簾、さらに感覚的に涼しさを得る手だてとして室礼、器、菓子。耳からも涼しさを感じられる風鈴など。

簾や御簾、そして簾戸（すど）は見た目にも涼しげです。

そのため、現代住宅に比べて差し込む光はやさしく、陰になる部分も大切にします。光と陰の濃淡を楽しむ暮らしは、日本ならではの趣なのでしょう。

けれどこれを見ないことには、夏が始まったとも終わったとも言えない

However, it becomes hot and uncomfortable when the sun shines directly into the room.

Kominka is a representative building designed to adjust the amount of sunlight that enters the room in the summer and let in the sunlight in the winter.

The room, which is brightly illuminated by fluorescent lights, has no taste at all.

Such an inorganic feeling does not match my senses.

Considering how the sun hits the house changes depending on the season, it is better to have some dark spots rather than bright spots everywhere. It is attractive that the light and shade are well-balanced and harmonious.

I think that in the summer, old houses and townhouses are designed to block strong sunlight rather than letting in a lot of light into the room.

One of them is the deep eaves that block the summer sun. Then there are the bamboo blinds and the room ceremonies, tableware, and confectionery to get a sense of coolness. Wind chimes that make you feel cool even from your ears.
