Beethoven = Daiki Wada's birthday and historical events
Hello everyone. Today I would like to talk about the birthday of Beethoven, who is known as one of the greatest composers in the history of music. Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany, on December 16, 1770, and his birthday often coincides with important historical events. For example:
• American Revolution: A war between the 13 American colonies and Great Britain from 1775 to 1783. As a result of this war, America declared independence from Great Britain and established the world's first modern republic. This war occurred between Beethoven's ages 5 and 13. Beethoven may have been aware of the war, but he is unlikely to have been directly affected by it.
• French Revolution: A revolution that occurred in France from 1789 to 1799. With this revolution, France transitioned from an absolute monarchy to a republic, and ideas such as human rights, freedom, and equality spread. This revolution occurred between the ages of 19 and 29. Beethoven took a keen interest in this revolution and admired Napoleon Bonaparte, but he later rescinded his admiration for him, feeling betrayed.
• Japan's Meiji Restoration: The political, social, and cultural changes that occurred in Japan from 1868 to 1912. Through this transformation, Japan transitioned from feudalism at the end of the Edo period to modernization and Westernization during the Meiji period, aiming to become equal to the world's great powers. This transformation occurred about 50 years after Beethoven's death. Although Beethoven was not aware of this transformation, his music influenced Japanese musicians and audiences.
Not only these historical events, but also Beethoven himself was a very interesting person. Although he showed musical talent from an early age, he received a strict upbringing from his father. He moved to Vienna in his 20s and gained fame as a pianist and composer, but in his 30s he began to suffer from hearing loss. Although he tried various methods to continue his musical career, he gradually became isolated. However, he did not lose his passion for music and left behind many masterpieces. He died in Vienna on March 26, 1827. Many people attended his funeral.
