【Native English Diary】8日目～ROUND1はアメリカにもある？？😲
皆さんこんにちは！ROUND1はアメリカにもあるのご存知ですか？？
私はこの間帰省した時に初めて分かった！
アメリカのラウンドワンは日本のとどう違う？今日はその話したいと思います😁
この日記は、ネイティブ英語を読みながら勉強したい方や、在日外国人の日常に興味のある方のために書いています。

Day 8
Recently, when I went back to Florida to visit my family, I took a trip to Ohio to visit my sister.
My sister lives in an apartment there with her partner and two other roommates (It's a full house!).
※「partner」- この場合は「恋人」という意味です！性別や結婚状況に関係ない言い方なので、最近アメリカでよく使われる言い方です。
It turns out that my sister's partner is an expert DDR player! DDR is the abbreviation for… Dance Dance Revolution!
Of course, I'm sure most Japanese people know about Dance Dance Revolution because it's a Japanese game, but did you know that it is incredibly popular in the US?
But, how did my sister's partner get into DDR? (get into = 初めて興味を持つ）
Well, it seems there's a Round1 just a short drive from their family home in Ohio. They often went there with friends when they were young.
※実は、妹の恋人はノンバイナリーです！ノンバイナリーというのは、男女という性別のどちらにもはっきりと当てはまらない人。そしたらその人に対して使う代名詞は「he/she」ではなく「they」になります。
My sister, her partner, and her two other roommates go to practice DDR at Round1 regularly once per week. They invited me and my boyfriend Kazuki to accompany them.
Did you know that there are Round1 centers in the USA? Apparently there are trying to expand their business abroad. Here's an interesting article we found about the topic.
Anyways, we were excited to accompany my sister and her friends to Round1 and watch some expert-level DDR players practice!
When we got there, the four of them were busy practicing.
They looked like professionals and even wore special gloves for grabbing the bar.
After watching them for awhile, me and Kazuki decided to explore the American Round1.
So, what's the difference between Round1 in the USA and Japan?
Actually, it's very similar! It has a lot of the same games in Japan, such as Mario Kart, fighting games, and claw machines (クレーンゲーム). It even had some purikura photo booths!
It's obvious they were using Japan as a strong appeal point. Round1 in the USA is very attractive to those who are interested in Japanese culture.
Many posters in the building advertised "Great Japanese Technology", "Popular in Japan!", "Recent Japanese Trend", etc.
They even had game machines that were only in Japanese. But, this was considered interesting and exciting, and were strongly advertised as "Straight from Japan!"
American arcades are usually very different from Round1. To be honest, games in American arcades are typically not so fun and kind of dirty.
That's why Round1 in the US is so attractive to many people.
※ゲームセンターは和製英語なので英語で実はあまりつかわないです！ゲームセンター = arcade
Anyways, me and Kazuki returned to my sister and her friends, who were still busily practicing DDR.
They invited me and Kazuki to give it a try. (give it a try = やってみる)
We were nervous because they were so skilled and we were just beginners!
But we ended up having a great time. (to have a great time = とても楽しむ)
If you ever get a chance, you should try going to Round1 in the USA.
