■今日の注目語句

[11:08] How are schools thinking about compensating athletes in those sports that generate a lot of revenue versus those that don't, so, say, the star football player, the star basketball player versus the star pole vaulter?
PAT FORDE: Well, how this actually is going to be divided up is going to be one of the great sources of curiosity and ultimately controversy, I would imagine. As it stands now, it seems like the preponderance of thought is to make this an institution-by-institution decision. This will not be like a nationally mandated pay scale.

[16:11] DR. JENNIFER AVEGNO, Director, New Orleans Health Department: Well, practically, abortion medications are already illegal for elective terminations in Louisiana. We have some of the most restrictive laws post-Dobbs. So what we're really talking about now is not abortion care, but it is all the routine medical uses that mifepristone and misoprostol are used for every day, things like to induce childbirth, to stop uterine hemorrhage, miscarriages, and there are several other non-obstetric indications. So this is really the routine practice of health care that these drugs are being mischaracterized as somehow dangerous drugs of abuse.

[29:02] DAVID BROOKS: Yes, I mean, if you're a Republican politician, you have two options. One, we will call the Liz Cheney option, where you take a principled stand against Donald Trump's character and you become a former politician. Or we will call the second, the Marco Rubio option, which is, you get along with the program and don't say anything and just get along with Trump world.

[30:31] And she called Trump everything but a child of God in the last -- in the closing weeks of her campaign.

[40:15] When we talk about greenhouse gas emissions and transportation, we largely focus on cars and trucks, since they generate the most. But the aviation sector is under pressure to reduce its carbon footprint too. In the second of two reports [* 前回リポート] , science correspondent Miles O'Brien looks at efforts to create greener fuels for the skies.

[42:14] DAVE KIMBALL: It's a drop-in fuel, so you don't have to modify anything to use it. You don't have to build charging stations for airplanes and all those types of things.

[43:44] JERRY TUSKAN: There is enough land potentially available to produce 35 billion gallons of aviation fuel. It will take a portfolio or a mixture of species geared toward adaptive production in specific regions.

[47:20] MILES O'BRIEN: To entice farmers to grow energy crops, they will need new equipment, financing and crop insurance. For now, it's a field of dreams, except, if you build it, the market may not come.

[53:13] ROB HOLDWAY: People take the pub for granted, and they underestimate the importance to the local community. That's definitely true, and bringing people together, and that sort of like release that you get from having a good pint, a good quality meal, and just basically enjoying yourself. It's a good -- it's a very important part of society, just like the church is for some people as well.
MALCOLM BRABANT: But pub life is not the religion it once was in Britain.
