Kroller-Muller Museum ～バンゴッホ
2023年のイースターにオランダのKroller-Muller Museumを訪れてからすっかり病みつきになってしまい、今年も訪問してきました。
今回も、ロンドンからUKのFolkstoneまで2時間程度ドライブし、Folkstoneからユーロトンネルの電車にクルマを積み込み、フランスからベルギーのアントワープで一泊し、チューリップで有名なオランダのKeukenhofで休みながらアムステルダムで一泊、その後のKroller-Muller 美術館でした。

この美術館の魅力は、世界で二番目に多いゴッホの作品もさることながら、美術館がHoge Veluwe国立公園の中にあり（そのため美術館の入館料とともに国立公園への入場料が一人当たり13€程かかる）、その広大な敷地の中にも作品が自然と調和してひっそりと佇んでいることろです。
ゴッホの作品は、1886年までの陰鬱な色彩の前期の作品も、それ以降の色彩豊かな作品も充実しており、その作品数に圧倒されます。
特に私の好きな絵は、Pink Peach trees（1888年）とTerrace of a cafe at night（1888年）ですが、その270点もの作品のなかから必ずやお気に入りが見つかるのではないかと思います。
ゴッホの魅力とは何なのか、それは人それぞれだとは思いますが、私はその線の描き方に心を奪われます。働く農民たちを描いた少し武骨な線。それが後期の色鮮やかな絵画にも見事にマッチし、どこから見てもゴッホの絵だと分かる彼の飛び出してくるような力強いタッチになっているのではないかと思います。
外の庭園に出ると、美術館の前にある多くの作品群（Isamu Noguchi等）が手の届く距離に点在しています。
私のお勧めは、少し離れた野原に八方のスピーカーからホーンの音が鳴り響びき、誰もいないその野原の真ん中で鳥のさえずりと、そのホーンの重低音をゆっくりと聞くことができる場所です。少し美術館の建物からは離れていますが、何か心のなかの深いものを揺さぶられるような感じがする体験ができます。
そこは、ノルウェイの森に出てくる草原のイメージに何となくにているので、迷うことの無いようにこの場所を探して見てください。
2023年にこの美術館を知ったのは、アムステルダムの観光をして、いろいろな見どころが事前のチケット購入を済ませていないと入場できないことを知って諦めかけていたところ、夕ご飯を隣で食べて居た方からいろいろと情報頂いたことがきっかけでした。旅の醍醐味でもある一期一会。あの時の教えてくれた方、ありがとうございました。
常にこの場所に行くことはできないので、ロンドンのNational Galleryでもゴッホを鑑賞しながらまた聖地巡礼の旅に出たいと思います。
After visiting the Kroller-Muller Museum in the Netherlands during Easter 2023, I became completely hooked, and I visited again this year.
This time, I drove about 2 hours from London to Folkstone in the UK, loaded my car onto the Eurotunnel train from Folkstone, stayed overnight in Antwerp, Belgium, after crossing France, took a break at the famous tulip fields of Keukenhof in the Netherlands while staying overnight in Amsterdam, and then visited the Kroller-Muller Museum.
The charm of this museum lies not only in its impressive collection of Van Gogh's works, which is the second largest in the world, but also in its location within the Hoge Veluwe National Park. Because of this, along with the museum entrance fee, there's an additional fee of about 13€ per person for entry into the national park. Within the vast grounds, artworks blend harmoniously with nature, quietly standing amidst the landscape.
Van Gogh's works span his early somber palette up to his later vibrant pieces, showcasing a wide range of his artistry. With a staggering 270 pieces to admire, including personal favorites like "Pink Peach Trees" (1888) and "Terrace of a Cafe at Night" (1888), there's bound to be something for everyone amidst his oeuvre.
Van Gogh's allure may vary from person to person, but for me, it's his distinctive brushwork that captivates my heart. The rugged lines depicting toiling peasants, seamlessly transitioning into the vibrant colors of his later works, create a powerful and unmistakable presence that screams "Van Gogh" from every angle. His bold and forceful brushstrokes seem to leap off the canvas, adding an extra dimension to his artistry.
When you step into the garden, you'll find numerous sculptures (including by Isamu Noguchi) scattered within arm's reach just outside the museum. One of my recommendations is a secluded spot in a distant meadow where the sound of horns resonates from speakers positioned in all directions. Amidst the empty expanse of the field, you can leisurely listen to the chirping of birds intertwined with the deep tones of the horns. Though it's a bit removed from the main museum building, the experience feels profoundly stirring, resonating with something deep within. It's reminiscent of a meadow in the "Norwegian Wood", so be careful not to be lost if you search with that imagery in mind.
Discovering this museum in 2023 was a stroke of luck for me. While touring Amsterdam and realizing that many attractions required advance ticket purchases, I was on the verge of giving up when someone dining next to me kindly shared information about it. It's moments like these, encounters with strangers that are part of the essence of traveling. To the person who shared their knowledge with me that day, thank you.
Since I can't always visit this place, I plan to embark on pilgrimage-like journeys, perhaps while admiring Van Gogh's works at the London National Gallery.
