もう一人の舞姫
土曜日の朝日新聞の読書欄を見ていたら、こんな記事があった。
この記事によると、遠藤周作という小説家が、フランス留学中に、婚約したと言っていい関係だった女子学生を見捨てて、帰国後に日本人女性と結婚した。その女子学生は、日本語を勉強して、フランス語講師として北海道大学に赴任したという。
この記事を読んで、私は『舞姫』という小説を思い出した。この小説は、作者である森鷗外の実体験に基づいていると言われているということも。
私が高校生だったころ、国語の教科書には、この『舞姫』という小説が載っていた。どういう授業だったかは、すっかり忘れてしまったし、面白い話とは思わなかった。
ただし、斎藤美奈子さんの『妊娠小説』によれば、『舞姫』は「妊娠小説の父」だそうだ。なぜ、そのように評価するかについては、この本に子細に書かれているので、このジャンルや文学史に興味のある方は読んで見られるといいだろう。国語の授業で、斎藤さんの本のような教え方をする教師はほとんどいないだろうし。
『舞姫』という小説は、各出版社の出す高校の国語の教科書すべてに載り続けている。今年から、国語の科目が変わるが、『舞姫』は、「文学国語」という科目の教科書に相変わらず載っている（例えば第一出版社）。教師たちは、これまでの蓄積があるから、教えるのが楽なのだろう。
ただ、この記事には、こういう意見が載っている。
２年生以降の選択科目で、小説も扱う「文学国語」も学べるが、大学受験を視野に入れると古典と現代文を押さえられる「古典探究」と「論理国語」の組み合わせが選ばれやすい。「小説を教えられるのは１年の『現代の国語』しかない」と、時間数のやりくりに苦心する。
つまり、小説を扱う授業は学生に不人気だろう、と予想されているのだ。一方、入学試験に出るから、学生たちが仕方なく古典を学ぶというのも、何だかわびしい。

Well, in Japanese class, there are few teachers who teach like Mr. Saito's book.
The novel "Maihime" continues to appear in all high school Japanese language textbooks published by various publishers. From this year, the subject of Japanese language changed, but "Maihime" is still listed in the textbook of the subject "Literary Japanese language" (for example, Daiichi Publishing). Teachers must be easy to teach because they have accumulated so far.
However, this article has some thoughts on it.
As an optional subject from the second year onwards, students can also study literary language, which also deals with novels, but when considering university entrance exams, it is easy to choose a combination of "classical inquiry" and "logic language" that can cover classics and modern sentences. "The only time I can teach novels is 'Modern Japanese' for one year," he said, struggling to manage the number of hours.
In other words, it is feared that "Literary Japanese language" will be unpopular with students.
On the other hand, it's kind of sad that students have no choice but to study classical literature because it will be on the entrance exam.
