若冲はなぜ偉いのか〜「動植綵絵」からのメッセージ〜 Why Jakuchu is Great-Message from "Dōshokusaie"-

■ プロローグ

マイクロプラスチック、地球温暖化を含めた環境問題や絶滅危惧種の生き物などのニュースを見ると自分に何かが突き刺さってくるようだ。また現在の感染症の流行では経済・格差・貧困などの問題が深刻に表面化している。
私達人類に対して、様々な課題が急激に突きつけられている様に私は感じている。

近年、江戸時代の絵師・伊藤若冲の絵が取り上げられる機会が多くなっている様に感じる。

ここでは彼の「動植綵絵」という作品に注目して述べてみようと思う。

伊藤若冲は〝禅〟の思想に影響を受けている。
仏教の「山川草木悉皆仏性」の思想の影響と、辻惟雄氏がNHKの番組で述べた「曼荼羅ではないだろうか」という言葉、そして作品全体から受ける印象から、私には「この世界」を伊藤若冲自身がどう感じているのかを絵にしている様に感じられる。
「動植綵絵」三十点のみに限ってかみくだいて言えば、まさに「この世界はこうなっているよね」と本人が問いかけてくる様である。

■ 宇宙という物差しを使って考える

私は宇宙がどうできたか、宇宙がどうなっているかを知ることが好きだ。

ひとりの人間を宇宙から考えてみたいと思う。
近年、宇宙の中で原子からなる物質（形をなすものと考えていいと思う）は4.6％だと言われている。人間も原子で出来ているのでその仲間。
宇宙には銀河が1000億あり、一つの銀河には2000億の星がある。地球はその一つの星だ。地球の全生物のバイオマス（質量）から見れば、人類は全生物の1％にも満たないらしい。そして全世界の人口は70億人以上。
宇宙を1としてひとりの人間を考えると次のような数式になると思う。

ひとりの人間＝4.6％÷1000億÷2000億÷100（1％）÷70億

ひとりの人間＝宇宙の原子÷銀河÷星÷人間の質量÷世界人口

宇宙にあるものを少なく見積もっての計算だが、お分かりの通り宇宙全体からみてひとりの人間は限りなく0％に近い存在なのだ。

ここで伊藤若冲の「動植綵絵」の絵に戻って欲しい。前述したが、この作品は世界の一部を取り出したのではなく、宇宙全体を含めたこの世界が描かれていると私は感じている。これは彼なりの曼荼羅であり、宇宙全体を表現した作品なのだ。

このような表現をした作品を私は他に知らない。
だから私は 伊藤若冲は偉大 だと思うようになったのである。

■ 科学的に「いのち」を考えてみる

考えて欲しいことがある。
例えば「人間」とその辺りにある「石」や「草」。
素粒子から考えるならどれも同じ素粒子から出来ている。
三者に何の違いがあるのだろうと私は思う。

話は変わり
真空
これを量子力学の観点で見てみる。すると、その中では何も無いところに電子と陽電子が対となって生まれては、消えている。これがずっと繰り返されているのだ。
これはこの宇宙にあるもの全てに当てはまると思う。
人間よりも時間はかかるものの、石も変化しいずれは消えてしまう。

だから私は「どこまでが生物か」を考えた時に、この「人間」と「石」のどちらにも生物と無生物の境を感じられなくなるのだ。ゆえに私は無機物でさえ「いのち」だと考えている。

伊藤若冲の「動植綵絵」には様々な生き物や植物や自然物が一つの絵の中に描かれている。
その一体感や調和感は、構図というものを超えて「いのち」というようなものを絵全体から感じられる内容となっている。

■ これから先

2015年国連サミットで採択されたSDGs（エス・ディー・ジーズ：持続可能な開発目標）は2030年までに持続可能でよりよい世界を目指す国際目標で、ひとつひとつその項目を見ていくと共に生きていくということのより具体的な目標であることがお分かりになると思う。

思い起こして欲しい。
911では他者と共に生きていくことの難しさを
3.11では自然の力と共に生きていくことの難しさを
扱う事の難しいエネルギーと共生できるのか、そしてこれからどういうエネルギーと共に生きていくのかを問い正された。
そして今現在、感染症の流行ではこれから先も今までと同じ世界システムと生きていくのか、格差のあるもの同士共に生きていくにはどうすれば良いのかなど‥

伊藤若冲の絵は共に生きていることを包括的に表現している作品となっている。
このことから「動植綵絵」は今を生きる私達に必要なメッセージを伝えている。

今一度言うが、私達人類に突きつけられている様々な課題へ対し、共に生きていくということをキーワードに具体的な選択や目標を設定しなければならない。
そしてこれにはあまり時間がないように感じるのである。

この絵は、祈りでもある。

Why Jakuchu is Great-Message from "Dōshokusaie"-

■ Prologue

When I see news about microplastics, environmental problems including global warming, and endangered creatures, something seems to pierce me. In the current epidemic of infectious diseases, problems such as economy, disparity and poverty are becoming serious.
I feel that various challenges are suddenly faced to us humankind.

In recent years, I feel that there are more and more opportunities for the paintings of the Edo period painter Ito Jakuchu to be featured.

Here, I would like to focus on his work called "Dōshokusaie."

Ito Jakuchu is influenced by the idea of "Zen".
From the influence of the Buddhist idea of "Everyone's Buddha of Yamakawa Kusagi", the words "Isn't it a mandala" that Mr. Nobuo Tsuji mentioned in the NHK program, and the impression received from the whole work, I gave "this world". It seems to be a picture of how Ito Jakuchu himself feels.
To put it simply, it is as if the person asked "I think this world is like this."

■ Think using the ruler of space

I like to know how the universe was created and what it is.

I want to think about a human being from space.
In recent years, it is said that 4.6% of substances (think of them as forms) in the universe consist of atoms. Since humans are also made of atoms, they are friends.
There are 100 billion galaxies in the universe, and one galaxy has 200 billion stars. The earth is that one star. According to the biomass (mass) of all living things on earth, it seems that humans account for less than 1% of all living things. And the world population is more than 7 billion.
Considering one human being with the universe as 1, I think the following mathematical formula.

One person = 4.6% / 100 billion / 200 billion / 100 (1%) / 7 billion

One person = atom of the universe ÷ galaxy ÷ star ÷ human mass ÷ world population

It is a calculation that underestimates what is in the universe, but as you can see, one person is infinitely close to 0% from the perspective of the entire universe.

Here, I would like you to return to the painting of "Dōshokusaie" by Jakuchu Ito. As I mentioned above, I feel that this work does not take out a part of the world, but depicts this world including the entire universe. This is his own mandala, a work that represents the entire universe.

I don't know any other works that have such expressions.
So I came to think that Ito Jakuchu was great.

■ Scientifically consider "life"

I have something to think about.
For example, "human" and "stones" and "grass" around it.
If we think of elementary particles, they are all made of the same elementary particles.
I wonder what the differences are between the three.

Let's see this from the viewpoint of quantum mechanics. Then, a pair of electrons and positrons were born and disappeared in the empty space. This is being repeated all the time.
I think this applies to everything in this universe.
It takes longer than humans, but the stones change and eventually disappear.

So when I think about "how much of a living thing," neither "human" nor "stone" can feel the boundary between living things and inanimate objects. Therefore, I consider even inorganic matter to be "life."

Jakuchu Ito's "Dōshokusaie" shows various creatures, plants and natural objects in one picture.
The sense of unity and harmony goes beyond composition and allows you to feel something like "life" from the whole picture.

■ The future

The SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) adopted at the 2015 UN Summit are international goals aiming for a sustainable and better world by 2030, and we will live by looking at each of these items. You can see that it is a more specific goal.

I want you to remember.
911 makes it difficult to live with others
In 3.11, we will see how difficult it is to live with the power of nature.
I was asked if I could live in harmony with difficult-to-treat energy and what kind of energy I would live with.
And now, in epidemics of infectious diseases, will we continue to live with the same world system as we have been, and how can we live together with disparities?

The painting by Jakuchu Ito is a work that comprehensively expresses living together.
For this reason, "Dōshokusaie" conveys the necessary message for us who are living today.

Once again, we must set concrete choices and goals with the keyword of living together with the various challenges facing us.
And this feels like there's not much time left.

This picture is also a prayer.
