セッション定番曲その49：Desafinado (Slightly Out of Tune)
「あなたって音痴ね」「私たち調子が合わないわね」という辛辣な歌詞の曲。ボサノバ／ジャズ・セッションでの定番曲です。歌詞の意味を歌でどう表現するか・・・

和訳したものはあちこちのWebサイトに掲載されているので、ここではポイントだけ説明します。
ポイント1：あなたって音痴ね
1959年にアントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンによって作曲された曲。比較的初期のボサノバ曲ですね。呟くように囁くように歌うのがボサノバの特徴ですが、聴き慣れない人達には「何を歌っているのか分からない」「なんか調子外れじゃない？」と思われたのかもしれず、それを逆手に取ったタイトルと歌詞になっています。
ボサノバはジャズ（とクラシック音楽）の影響を受けていて、複雑なテンションの入ったコード（和音）が使われていて、そこにメロディが乗ると、やはり聴き慣れていない人には「えっ、これってメロディ間違えて歌っていない？」と感じられるような場面もあって、それを意図的に盛り込んでいる箇所もこの曲にはあります。
・・・だから「あなたって音痴ね」と思われるように歌うのが正解、というややこしい曲。
ポイント2：3種類の歌詞
・原曲のポルトガル語の歌詞
・1962年にジョン・ヘンドリックス他によって付けられた英詞（意訳）
・1967年に別バージョンの英詞が付けられてフランク・シナトラが歌ったもの（割と直訳っぽい）
ポルトガル語は母音が多くて、歌う時には平坦な調子で歌うのに一番似合っているのかもしれません。
ジョン・ヘンドリックスが作る歌詞はあまり意味の無いもの（過去のジャズミュージシャンの逸話を連ねたようなもの）が多いのですが、この歌詞は珍しく良く出来ています。イメージの広がりがあるのと、何よりメロディへのノリが良いので歌いやすい。内容的には原曲の歌詞を元ネタにしながら、かなり物語要素を加えたものになっています。
フランク・シナトラが歌ったバージョンは、原曲の歌詞に近くて、歌に表情を付けるのがあまり上手くない（ワンパターンな）彼に合わせて言葉を詰め込み過ぎないようになっています。
歌う場合には好みでどれを選んでもよいかと。
こここではジョン・ヘンドリックス版の歌詞をベースに解説します。
ポイント3：Like the bossa nova, love should swing
Que isto é bossa nova, que isto é muito natural
歌詞の中にさりげなく「bossa nova」という言葉が出てきます。当時は「何か新しい都会的な音楽が出てきたな」という受け止められ方だったところに「これはbossa nova（新しい波／傾向）だよ」と宣言したようなかたち。
のちにステッペンウルフの「Born to Be Wild」の歌詞に「Heavy Metal Thunder」という言葉が出てきて「ヘビーメタル」という名称の先駆けになったのを想起しますね。
ポイント4：But our song of love is slightly out of tune
「私たちの愛の歌は、ちょっと調子外れみたいね」と、歌が音痴なのと愛情の交換がすれ違っていることを掛けて歌っています。

（これまでは上手くいっていたのに）違う歌を歌い始めてしまい、歌詞もうまく韻を踏めていない。お互いに耳元で囁くように歌っていたメロディをあなたは忘れてしまったし。
「rhyme」は「韻を踏む／踏ませる」という意味。発音はシンプルに「ráim」です。
「croon」は「小声で歌う」という意味です。
ポイント5：Join with me in harmony and sing a song of loving

あなたが私の気持ちに寄り添って歌ってくれれば、もう調子外れになることもない、一緒に歌いましょう
「愛／気持ち」を音楽に例えながら、それが調子外れになっていく様子を描き、それを解決する為にはもう一度チューニングをやり直して、ハーモニーを合わせて奏でる／歌うことが大事、という流れの歌ですね。
ポイント6：構成
一般的なジャズスタンダード曲と比べると、ワンコーラスが68小節と長く、最初は曲の流れを追うだけで精一杯になってしまうかもしれません。
Aセクションが16小節×2、Bセクションが16小節、Cセクションが12小節＋8小節。歌詞の流れで覚えると分かり易いと思います。
ジャズの人が大好きな「2-5-1」の箇所が意外と無いので、アドリブを弾く時には工夫が必要ですね。
Aセクションの最後の4小節とBセクションの最初の4小節のコード進行が同じなのが、技巧的であり、混乱し易い箇所。

ポイント7：どう歌うのか
最終的には個々の好みで、誰のバージョンを聴いて参考にするか決めればいいのですが、どう歌うのがこの曲に相応しいのか、セッション向きなのかをちょっと考えてみます。
例えばこれは「歌ウマ」さん代表のElla Fitzgeraldがサンバっぽくアレンジして歌ったもの。
コレはこれでアリですが、こんなに饒舌に歌われると「音痴の僕」としては少し怖気づいてしまうかもしれませんね。コレジャナイ感・・・
本家本元様の歌唱はコレ。淡々と呟くように歌うお手本。
フランク・シナトラの歌唱、ヴァース付き。
ジャズシンガーというよりは語るように歌う人なので、これはこれで意外と合っているのかもしれない。
私のお気に入りのバージョン。
シンプルな伴奏にのせて伸びのある声で、歌詞の「物語」を伝えようとしている感じ。
Julie Londonの、ラテン色強めのバージョン。色気のある彼女が歌うと歌詞の意味が変わって聞こえるのが面白いですね。
