論文の投稿先に関して（MDPI）

今日は博士課程の論文投稿先について、特にMDPIという学会誌に焦点を当てて話をしたいと思います。この話は私自身の体験に基づいていますので、何かの参考になれば幸いです。

経緯

私が通う慶應義塾大学大学院の博士課程の要件にはジャーナルでの論文掲載が2本必要で、自分の研究テーマに合ったジャーナルを探していたところ、MDPIという学会誌に出会いました。特に「International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health」という学会誌が内容的にマッチしていて調べる中で「2nd Edition of Nursing and Palliative Care」という特集号があることを発見。特集号は比較的査読が早いということで、具体的なフォーマットや規定を調べていました。

投稿を検討

投稿を検討している段階で、MDPIのサイトに登録をしていろいろと情報を集めました。過去の論文を読んでみると、素晴らしいものもあれば、「これが通るの？」と疑問に思うものも。IF（インパクトファクター）が高いからといって、全てが信頼できるわけではないな、と感じました。

予想外の展開

事前登録も済ませ、論文を仕上げていざ提出しようとすると、突然のメールが。特集号がなくなるというのです。ClarivateがIJERPHの内容に問題があると判断し、Web of Scienceでのインデックスが取り消される可能性があるとのこと。そのため、特集号は中止となりました。

以下が実際に届いたメールの内容です。

We regret to inform you that Clarivate has provided us with the decision
on 15th March 2023 that they have discontinued their coverage of IJERPH.
Clarivate found that IJERPH failed the Content Relevance criterion,
highlighting several publications that were deemed to be outside the
scope of the journal. Clarivate periodically evaluates journals indexed
in their collections, and any journals that no longer meet their
criteria are removed. Unfortunately, publishers are not informed about
the evaluation process until its completion; therefore, we could not
inform you earlier regarding these developments. We are currently
engaged in the appeal process with Web of Science. Should the appeal
have a negative outcome, any future publications in IJERPH will not be
indexed in the Web of Science database.

We are currently having discussions with Clarivate on this matter and
are hopeful that this outcome can be avoided. As a side note, the
journal is currently indexed by other databases, e.g., Scopus,
PubMed/MEDLINE, etc.

After discussing with the Guest Editor(s) of the Special Issue "2nd
Edition of Nursing and Palliative Care", we agreed that this issue would
be withdrawn. We would therefore like to ask you to please inform us
whether or not you still wish to submit the mentioned paper to IJERPH.
If so, the paper will be proceeded in a regular issue; if not, you may
choose to submit it to another journal that suits the paper.

Thank you for your consideration, and we wish you all the best with the
paper.

気づきと注意

その後、別の投稿先を探していたところ、再びMDPIのサイトに行くと、多数の新しい特集号が組まれていました。これにはちょっと驚きました。そして、ネットで調べてみると、MDPIについていろいろな意見が飛び交っていました。

どうやら自分の慶應大学は契約していないそうですね。

今後に向けて

結局、そのタイミングで投稿しなくてよかったと思いました。皆さんも、投稿先を選ぶ際は慎重に。一見魅力的に見えるジャーナルでも、裏側で何が起きているかわかりませんから。

色々調べる中で、

• Elsevier

• Springer Nature

• Wiley

• Sage Journals

あたりが信頼できそうですね。
