【Native English Diary】6日目～ニューヨークに行って驚いたこと🗽

今日はニューヨークに行った話をしたいと思います😊

Day 6
When I was back visiting my family in Florida, me and my boyfriend Kazuki took some trips around the US.
One of the places we visited was New York City!
I went there a few times with my family when I was younger, but it was the first time I could go as an adult.
I was curious to see if the Big Apple would be anything like the big city of Tokyo.
※Big Appleはニューヨークの有名なニックネームです！🍎
The truth is, it's not like Tokyo at all!
Tokyo is well-known among travelers to be pristine clean and well-maintained.
Conversely, our first impression of New York was that it was kind of dirty. (Conversely = 逆に)
And, we often noticed some suspicious smell… Smell of what? Here's a hint… 🌿😵
The trains are where we felt the most culture shocked.
In Tokyo, the trains a very clean and VERY crowded with people!
On the other hand, in New York, I was surprised that not many people use the trains, so the stations are dark and a bit dirty.
The people on the trains talk loudly and sometimes even listen to loud music.
And, we found some interesting advertisements. This is an advertisement for a dating app.
Anyways, of course there were so many things that we enjoyed about New York!
First of all, we found that the people and staff of New York were very kind. In the USA, New Yorkers have a reputation of being cold or rude, so I was surprised that it wasn't true. (cold = 冷たい)
Although people in New York were very fast-paced and rushed, they were actually very friendly. (fast-paced/rushed = 忙しい)
We were also surprised to find that New York is very walkable.
※walkable = 歩いて行けるという意味。全文の場合は街を表してるので、「色んな所に歩きやすい」という意味になります！
On the first day, we walked from our hotel in Brooklyn all the way to Little Italy and Lower Manhattan!
We also found that there's more public community areas in New York than Tokyo. There's more parks, seating areas, and outdoor areas to enjoy.
Central Park was one of our favorite places, with lots of beautiful gardens and places to relax, and lots of places to buy a classic American hotdog or pretzel! 🌭
Speaking of food, we were really excited to try some classic American food.
On the way to a museum, we stumbled into an old cafeteria-style diner. (stumbled into = たまたま見つけて入った）
It was a small store probably meant for busy New Yorkers to grab a quick lunch or breakfast on the way to work.
The service was so fast, and there were so many menu items!! Not only are there so many menu options, but you can customize anything however you like.
I got a croissant ham and cheese sandwich, and it was the most delicious sandwich I've ever had in my life…
This sandwich appears in my dreams sometimes and makes me hungry… 😫
We also tried a classic American diner in Brooklyn. These types of diners were once very common many years ago in the USA and were popular for their fast and friendly service and cheap food.
Now, they've been mostly replaced by Denny's and iHop… so it's a shame 😣
This diner was called Junior's and has existed since the 1950's. I recommend going if you ever get the chance.
Now that I'm hungry, I'm going to go sign off and get some food…
