【Native English Diary】7日目～レジがないコンビニのAmazon GOに行ってみた！🏪

Amazonが作ったレジもない無人コンビニです😲
今日のNative Diaryはその話したいと思います😎

Day 7
When I was in New York last month, me and my boyfriend Kazuki were disappointed at the lack of convenience stores (lack = 不足).
Japan makes it so easy to grab a drink or snack any time you want!
However, there was one interesting convenience store that I've heard of. It's a convenience store by Amazon called Amazon Go.
An Amazon convenience store? It sounds weird, right? Why is it special?
The catch is that there is no cash registers or staff at the convenience store.
※「The catch」は「面白いところ」という意味のイディオムです！
You simply walk in, take the food you want, and walk out.
It sounds crazy! I had a hard time believing it would work, but Amazon uses special technology to confirm what products you take, and charge it to your Amazon account.
But first, you have to set up your account to use Amazon Go. It was a little bit inconvenient for me and Kazuki because we had to change from a Japanese account to a USA account.
But once we got it setup, we scanned the QR code and went into the store.
And there was really no one there! There was no staff at all or even any other customers.
I was surprised because I thought the store would be more popular…
They sold all kinds of snacks, chips, and lunches.
There was even Krispy Kreme donuts and Starbucks coffee!
It was surprisingly cheap too. There were Starbucks drinks for only around $2.50.
You just fill up the cup yourself and leave. It feels so strange!
Because it's so easy to take and leave, it makes you want to take more things. Kind of dangerous for my wallet 😵
I also got some chocolate and chips. Since there's no checkout or register, I just took them and put them in my bag.
This also felt strange, it felt like I was stealing them…
When we finished taking our items, we just left the store. No need to scan or stop for anything.
I felt a little nervous and was wondering if the police was going to catch me…
But a few hours later, an email came with a receipt to my Amazon account.
Almost everything was correct…but wait!!
It looks like they didn't charge me for my Starbucks coffee… it was missing from my receipt!
Does this mean I am a criminal? I guess the technology is not perfect yet, so I hope they don't arrest me… 😣
