ChatGPTを使った英語授業アイデアと教員がすべきこと

先ほど同僚からメールが来ていました。

Chat GPTで簡単な教材を作ってみました。
どうでしょう？

さすが、一言二言話しただけでもう使ってる。

最近何かと話題のChatGPTですが、以前noteでも書いた通り、特に英語の授業での使い勝手はピカイチです。レッスンプランを書いてもらうという人も増えていますね。明日使えそうなプチアイデアを三つご紹介します。

難易度の違う会話文を作ってもらう

教科書の１レッスンって結構高校にもなると長いんです。でも、内容の骨子だけをさらっと扱いたい時もあります。

でも、会話文を書くのってめんどくさい！

そういう時はChatGPTです。１レッスン分の内容から重要な部分がサクッと会話文に変身！

Person 1: Did you know that only a small percentage of the water on Earth is fresh and available for us to use?
Person 2: No, that's surprising. I thought there was plenty of water for everyone.
Person 1: Well, actually most of the water on the planet is saltwater from the ocean. And even the fresh water isn't all accessible to us.
Person 2: That's really unfortunate. I can't imagine not having enough clean water to drink.
Person 1: Yeah, it's a big problem in some parts of the world. But even developed countries like Singapore have to deal with water shortages.
Person 2: How do they solve that problem?
Person 1: One way they do it is by using reservoirs to store heavy rainwater. But sometimes they have to buy water from other countries through pipelines.
Person 2: That makes sense. But what about when there's not enough water to go around?
Person 1: Well, Singapore came up with a solution called NEWater. It's drinking water that's made from dirty water and cleaned using advanced technology.
Person 2: That sounds like a great idea! It's important to be self-sufficient and find ways to use resources efficiently.
Person 1: Definitely. Water shortages can have serious consequences for countries' safety and economy. It's important for everyone to conserve water and find sustainable solutions.

T/F問題や３択問題を作ってもらう

問題文を作るのもお手のもの。先ほどの会話文と組み合わせてもよし、教科書のスキャニングに組み合わせてもよし。指定された数ですぐに作ってくれます。All of the aboveがこの時は多くて超簡単。でも、ざっとリスニングをして解くのならそのくらいでちょうどいいんです。

単語を使った中文穴埋めを作ってもらう

指定した単語を作って穴埋め問題を作ってもらいました。

Despite the ____ of resources, scientists are still trying to find ways to utilize the limited ____ of materials. 原文（NEWater)と全く違う内容なので、生徒も飽きずに取り組むことができます。

教員がすべきこととは

ますますA Iにできることが増えてきて、我々教員が試されています。ChatGPTができるのは、
・授業デザイン
・プリントのネタ作成
・問題、解答作成
そしてDeepLは英作文の添削ができます。

では私たちにしかできないことはなんでしょうか。それは場の雰囲気を見とること。生徒がどんな表情で、どんな姿勢で授業に臨んでいるか。楽しそうなのかそうでないのか。発する声は弱いのか強いのか高いのか低いのか。こちらと目を合わせるか。

そして、その時々で授業のコースデザインをModifyしたり、授業中にペースに緩急つけたり。そもそもドリルだってAIの方がはるかに上手ですから、本来教師がやるべきことにもっとフォーカスすべき時がやってきました。

さいごに

とはいえ、最近頼みのChatGPTさんがストライキを起こしています。あまりにもアクセスが集中し、使えないことが多いのです。それはそれで、頭を冷やす時間ができてよかったのかもしれません。ここからどうなるのか、本当に楽しみです。
