『天気の子』、世界へ。海外から寄せられる絶賛の声をまとめました。

いよいよ、1月17日から『天気の子』（英題：『Weathering With You』）のアメリカ公開が始まった。


まず、こちらが10月に公開された海外版予告編。日本版と比べて、スケール感を誇る大雨のシーンや、スピーディーなアクションシーンが大胆にフィーチャーされている。


「L.A. Times」の見出しは、「Review: ‘Weathering With You’ wraps larger concerns in a surprising modern-day fable」となっている。

The constant rains that flood Tokyo in “Weathering” suggest a metaphor for global climate change. Like young people around the world, Hodaka and Hina are trapped in the warming, increasingly inhospitable planet previous generations have left them. Shinkai’s sensitive treatment of these real-world problems gives the fantasy of “Weathering With You” a thought-provoking edge many more lavish American animated films lack.

本文を読むと、単なる少年少女のラブロマンスとして捉えるのではなく、今、僕たちが生きる現実世界が向き合う問題意識／危機意識との共鳴、という観点から考察が為されていることが分かりとても興味深い。

また、最後の一文は、自国・アメリカ映画界への痛切な批評にもなっている。


「Wall Street Journal」の見出しは、「‘Weathering With You’ Review: A Ray of Sunshine／Makoto Shinkai’s climate-focused romantic fantasy is a lightning strike of anime-art brilliance.」だ。

Star-crossed lovers are old news. Hodaka and Hina are cloud-and-rain-crossed, the hero and heroine of a tale of love in a time of climate change.

引用した最後の一文からも、今この時代に、「気候変動」を背景とした少年少女の物語が生まれた理由を読み解こうとする姿勢が伝わってくる。


続いて「New York Times」。

「‘Weathering With You’ Review: Letting the Sun Shine In／In the latest from the director of the hit anime “Your Name,” two teenagers find mysterious rays of hope amid catastrophe.」

やはり、「カタストロフィー」こそが、今作を観る上での重要な鍵である。各メディアにおいて、こうした共通認識があることは間違いないだろう。
