　I once hated the word 'tariki-hongan.'
As I was and am not in proficient in Buddhism, I took it for granted that it meant totally depending upon others. But it seems that I was wrong. 

  Last December when I happened to watch an NHK TV program, I was reminded of 'The Analects of Shinran'(tann-ni-sho) and reread the book for the first time in recent years. 

  Whether or not I understood the meaning of 'tariki-hongan' I don't know, however, I thought that it meant following the natural course of things. 

   We tend to see things from our points of view and behave as if what we see with our own eyes were correct. Although we often say we know and admit that there are a lot of opinions of others, on reflection, even such an idea of ours belongs not to us, but to given facts in our daily lives, for when we were born, we had nothing in our brains concerning what it is like to be right or wrong. 

   I don't hope to live according to a unique religion. I hope to persuade myself that I should stand on my own feet. In order to attain my wish, I have been toying with the idea that I should neither rely upon a religion nor rely upon the words of others. Therefore, I have wanted to think and live according to my beliefs. 

  But now I think that Buddism is not a religion, but a philosophy. Whether what is right or wrong I do not know. But I want to make it a habit that I live my life without distinguishing right from wrong, making a figment of imagination and destroying it over and over again.
