the first encounter in person
Last night I went out for a drink with a man I had never met in person.
（昨晩、対面で会ったことがなかった人と飲みに行きました）
We got to know each other through our mutual acquaintance a few weeks ago.
（わたしたちは数週間前にお互いの知人を通じて知り合いました）
I met the woman in person at a meetup event in Osaka.
（その方とは大阪のミートアップイベントでお会いしました）
During the event, we learned there was something common between us.
（イベント中、私たちには共通点があることがわかりました）
That was Japanese sake.
（それは日本酒でした）
I found that she's still in her twenties, but she's into Nihonshu and often joins sake drinking events.
（その方はまだ20代ですが、日本酒が好きでよく日本酒のイベントに参加していることがわかりました）
Of course, I told her that I was passionate about sake too and talked about my sake tours.
（もちろん、私も日本酒に情熱を持っていることをその方に伝え、自分の日本酒ツアーについて話しました）
A few weeks later, I got a message from her saying she got to know someone who is thinking of doing something new with the beverage.
（数週間後、その方から、日本酒で新しいことをしようと考えている人と出会ったというメッセージが届きました）
That was who I met last night.
（それが昨晩お会いした男性でした）
After that she continued and asked me if I would be interested in connecting with him.
（その後、その知人の方は、その男性と繋がりませんかといってくださいました）
There was no reason why I said no to such a wonderful suggestion.
（そんな素晴らしい提案に断る理由もなく）
She created a group chat for all of us so that he and I could connect.
（その方は私たち全員のためにグループチャットを作成しました。そうすれば、彼と私がつながることができるので）
After greeting each other in the chat, I suggested that we should hang out sometime soon.
（チャットで挨拶を交わした後、私は近いうちに会いましょうと提案しました）
We soon decided on a date for the get-together and it finally took place at a nice izakaya in Osaka last night.

Even though we had never met each other before, there was no awkward or silent moment at all.

Just like her, he's also quite young, but his passion toward sake is really something else.
（女性の方と同様に、彼もかなり若いですが、日本酒への情熱は何か特別なものを感じました）
What he's been doing over the years and hoping to do from now on inspired me a lot.

A wide variety of foods and drinks made our conversation even more fun and exciting.
（さまざまな料理や飲み物のおかげで、私たちの会話はさらに楽しく、わくわくするものとなりました）
It looked like that every dish on the menu was something that goes well with sake.
（すべての料理が日本酒に合うものという感じでした）
As for sake, they carried more than 50 sakes from different breweries throughout Japan.
（日本酒に関しては、日本全国のさまざまな酒蔵から50種類以上の日本酒を取り扱われていました）
Out of all the appealing varieties, I picked out this cute looking sake called "salmon de shu".
（魅力的なラインナップの中で、私はこのかわいらしい見た目の「salmon de shu」を選びました）
The reason why I felt like trying out this sake was that I had tasted sake called "saba de shu" before and I thought "salmon de shu" was a new product from the same brewery.
（この日本酒を試してみたいと思った理由は、「saba de shu」という日本酒を以前に飲んでいて、「salmon de shu」が同じ酒蔵の新製品だと思ったからです）
Just like "saba de shu" is designed to go well with mackerel, "salmon de shu" is brewed to pair well with salmon.
（「saba de shu」が鯖によく合うように設計されているように、「salmon de shu」はサーモンとよく合うように醸造されています）
With all the delicious foods and drinks, we spent quality time together.
（美味しい食べ物と飲み物と共に、私たちは一緒に良い時間を過ごしました）
After the meal, I realized again that sake has the power to bring people together.
（食後は日本酒が人々を一緒にする力があると改めて感じました）
