スーペルオチョかピーナッツか

　毎朝7:40分にやってくる黄色いバスに、僕らより先に乗っているのは、助手席にクナール、一番前の席にアントニオ。アントニオはギリギリ小学生かどうかな幼稚園生だった。生意気でかわいくて元気でいいやつだった。彼の弱点はスーペルオチョ(チョコレート菓子)を一つあげるだけで急に心優しいトイプードルのように目をキラキラさせて、聞き分けの良さが200パーセントになってしまうところだった。
　バスは学校から遠い家から拾って行き、学校から近い家から下して帰った。つまり僕ら兄弟はクナールとアントニオの次に長い時間このバスに乗っていた。一番前の席に座る双子のおチビガールズが歯磨き粉を食べ始めちゃったり、トシアナとハナの家の間で犬の交尾を見つけてみんなで口をあんぐりさせてイヤホンを一斉に外したり、ユッホをからかって怒らせてしまいクナールが露店の砂糖をまぶしたピーナッツを買ってあげなきゃいけなくなったとき以外は平和にみんな思い思いにイヤホンをつけながら寝たりした。空調がいまいちだったから湿度の高い日にフロントガラスが異様に曇ってドライバーさんとクナールが一生懸命雑巾で吹いているのも慣れてしまった。
　年長者は寝たふりをしたり、傷ついたふりをしたり、テンションが高いふりをしたり、怒ったふりをした。年少者はいかに甘いものを食べるかに頭を使った。

Super-Ocho or Peanut.
　The yellow bus arrives every morning at 7:40 a.m., and the people who get on before us are Kunal in the passenger seat and Antonio in the front seat. Antonio was a kindergartener, just barely in elementary school. He was cocky, cute, energetic, and nice. His weakness was that if you gave him one Superocho (chocolate candy), his eyes would suddenly twinkle like a kind-hearted poodle and his listening skills would increase to 200%.
　The bus picked us up from a house far from the school and dropped us off at a house closer to the school. In other words, we brothers were on this bus for the longest time after Kunal and Antonio. The bus ride was not without its moments: the little twin girls sitting in the front seat started eating toothpaste, the dog mating between Toshiana and Hanna's house made everyone's mouth water and remove our earphones simultaneously, the time we teased Yuho and made him angry and Kunal had to buy him sugar-coated peanuts from a street vendor. Except for that, everyone slept peacefully with earphones on, as they wished. The air conditioning was not so good, so I got used to the windshield fogging up on humid days and the driver and Kunal doing their best to blow it out with a rag.
　The elders pretended to be asleep, hurt, excited, or angry. The younger ones used their brains to figure out how to be sweet.
