【東京みち散歩物語】#5 TOKYO street stroll story in Chidorigahutchi

With the shocking experience in Nagatacho in mind, I decided to head to my next destination, Hanzomon. With the intimidating atmosphere of the National Diet Building at my back, I wanted to enjoy the view of the lush greenery of Chidorigafuchi. As I walked, the events from earlier swirled in my mind, but I tried to change my mood.

Hanzomon is located on the west side of the Imperial Palace, and the gate that gave it its name still stands quietly. The deep greenery and beautiful moat that surround the Imperial Palace make you forget the hustle and bustle of the city. I enjoyed the quiet time as I walked along the road along the moat.

I passed the British Embassy on my left and arrived at Chidorigafuchi, and was captivated by the beautiful scenery. This place, which is visited by many people during the cherry blossom season, is now enveloped in silence. All I could hear was the sound of cars in the distance and the conversation of sparrows. The greenery and blue sky reflected in the moat of the Imperial Palace looked like a painting.

At that moment, a young woman approached me. She had a sketchbook in her hand and seemed to be drawing something. Our eyes met and she spoke to me with a smile.

"Hello. It's a lovely place, isn't it?"

"Hello. It really is. Are you painting here?" I asked.

"Yes, I like to paint landscapes. Quiet and beautiful places like Chidorigafuchi inspire me."

Her name was Aya, and I learned she was an art school student. We talked for a while about the beauty of Chidorigafuchi, and she showed me her sketches. Her depictions were detailed yet warm, and I could feel her sensitivity.

Aya told me other recommended spots around Hanzomon. She especially recommended the nearby "East Gardens of the Imperial Palace." I was drawn to her words about the scenery that can only be seen there and the beauty of nature that changes with the seasons.

"And if you don't mind, why don't we take a walk around the East Gardens together after this? I can show you around." Aya suggested.

I happily agreed to the suggestion, and we headed to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace together. When I stepped into the garden, the beautifully maintained garden spread across a vast area, and it felt like another world. Aya explained the history and highlights of each area in detail, and I was impressed by her knowledge and passion.

"This garden was once part of Edo Castle. It is now a place of relaxation for citizens, but it is packed with history," Aya said.

As I continued to walk around, I learned a lot from my conversation with Aya. Seeing it through her perspective, I felt the deep charm of the city of Tokyo even more. Meeting her brought me new discoveries and emotions.

As the sun began to set, we left the garden and decided to take a break at a cafe along Otsuma Street near Hanzomon Station. Over hot coffee, we talked about our plans and dreams for the future. Aya said that she dreams of traveling the world as an artist in the future and painting.

"It was really wonderful meeting you. I hope you continue to enjoy Tokyo," Aya said with a smile.

"Thank you, Aya-san. The time I spent with you was a valuable experience for me. I hope to meet you again somewhere."

And so, I ended my walk from Nagatacho to Chidorigafuchi and then to Hanzomon, meeting a new friend. I felt that the city of Tokyo holds many stories and encounters, which further deepens its charm. My steps towards my next adventure were light and full of hope.
