2024年社長年頭挨拶

皆様、明けましておめでとうございます。
２０２４年、正月の築地から謹んで新年のお慶びを申しあげます。
旧年中は格別のお引き立てを賜りましたこと、厚く御礼申しあげます。
先ずは、先日より発生している災害により被害を受けられた地域の皆様および関係者の皆様に、心よりお見舞い申しあげます。皆様の安全と健康、ならびに被災地の一日も早い復興を心よりお祈りしております。

【振り返り】
昨年はコロナ感染拡大も終息し、経済活動の正常化も一気に進んだ一年となりました。
モノづくりの現場への人工知能ソリューションの提供が中心の当社にとって、コロナ禍においては工場の現場への入場も制限され、ソリューション開発および提供の場が激減し、経営的にも非常に厳しい状況に直面しました。
技術者にとっても、自ら開発したソリューションで現場の方々をサポートすることが出来ず歯がゆい思いが続いたことを思い出します。私自身も前職で実現できなかった夢を、当社で実現できる絶好のタイミングでのコロナ感染拡大で大変悔しい思いをしました。
２０２１年からは徐々に工場への入場もできるようになり、２０２２年には九州・宮崎県の医療部品製造工場の検査ラインへの導入が開始されました。
そこで活躍したのが当社技術者がコロナ禍で開発し続けてきた「現場に優しいAI開発環境ＭＡＮＵＦＡＣＩＡソリューション」です。
このソリューションのおかげで現場でも容易にＡＩを開発し、精度を向上させる事ができました。
当社の技術者が「最先端ＡＩと複雑システムを如何に簡単に現場ユーザーに使ってもらえるか」ということに拘った結果、実現できたソリューションです。
そして昨年２０２３年は複数のメディアでも取り上げられたり、プロモーション強化により製造業や大学機関での利用が急激に増えました。
またその裏側では当社の技術者がより効率の良い、より高品質な、より精度の高い人工知能開発環境（ＭＬ－Ｐｌａｔｆｒｏｍ：社内仮称）の構築にも成功する事が出来ました。これにより従来の外観検査ソリューションから大幅にアプリケーション領域を広げる事ができるようになります。

【新たな取組】
また昨年は３つの新たな取り組みをしてきました。
一つ目は、クラウドを用いたAI/機械学習インフラを持つギガロジ社との業務提携です。ギガロジ社は２０２２年の有望なＡＩスタートアップの一つにＪＥＴＲＯから選ばれたベンチャー企業です。これまで当社はオンプレミス環境を主にソリューション展開して参りましたが、クラウドインフラと共調しより多くの方々に人工知能開発環境を利用頂きたいと考えギガロジ社と業務提携を行いました。既に昨年は協業でお客様の為のAIクラウド環境を構築したり、昨今市場で注目を集めている生成AIの製造業向けソリューションとして、当社研究所の強みである大規模言語処理技術とギガロジ社の「自社GPT開発環境」を結合する取組も積極的に進めています。
もう一つの業務提携の目的は「デジタル人材の育成機関の設立」です。日本ではなかなかデジタル人材、特に高度なデジタル人材の確保が年々難しい状況があります。ギガロジ社はバングラディッシュ出身のＣＥＯ、ＣＴＯが日本で起業したこともあり、バングラディッシュの有名大学とのネットワークがあります。また当社のクロスラボは世界中の人工知能・人工生命の研究者と研究機関に太いネットワークを持っています。この二つのネットワークを活用して日本に優秀な高度デジタル人材を集め、実際のデジタル課題を解決させる経験を提供するデジタル人材育成機関ＰＡＩ（Pivotal AI Institute）を昨年業務提携と同時に設立しました。

二つ目は、「食」を多様な角度から展開する株式会社ウォーターマーク代表取締役 及び、レストラン「HAL YAMASHITA」オーナー 兼 エグゼクティブシェフ 山下 春幸氏との業務提携の基本合意をしました。
当社の最先端のデジタル科学・AI（人工知能）技術と長年ものづくりに携わってきた社会課題解決能力と、「おいしい笑顔を創造する」多様な食のリーディングカンパニー 株式会社ウォーターマークと業務提携することにより、今後、強力な協業体制を構築して人々の健康と世界的飢餓などの様々な世界規模の課題を“食と最先端デジタル・AI技術で解決”する為に必要な膨大なフードデータベースを構築して行きます。

三つ目は、ウェブハンドリング技術関連の強化です。日本のお家芸の一つと言っても過言ではないウェブ（薄膜長尺材料）を材料にした加工技術とデジタル解析技術の共創です。世界でも３本の指に入るウェブハンドリング技術の名門・東海大学の砂見准教授が経営する株式会社SUNAMIとの連携を強化する契約を締結しました。これにより課題解決の精度や範囲をウェブ市場におけるソリューションへと昇華することができるようになりました。

【２０２４年の取組】
当社クロスコンパスの理念は「AI Closer to You～AIをもっと身近に～」です。
この意味は全ての人々の生活を当社の最先端技術で豊かにし幸せな生活を提供する事です。この理念は私が代表就任後から変わっていません。その実現の為に今年も社員、お客様、パートナー様と一緒に努力していく所存です。
これまでの製造業向け人工知能ソリューション提供の経験・ノウハウという強みと、クロスラボが持つ世界中の人工知能研究者とのハブ機能という強みと、上記３つの新たな取組に挑む同じ志をもった企業との協力体制の強みを活かして、共に成長していきたいと考えています。
私もまだまだチャレンジ精神を忘れることなく、社内、社外に貢献できる企業としての成長を目指し邁進します。

First of all, I would like to express my deepest sympathies to everyone in the area and everyone involved in the disaster that occurred on New Year's Day and is still continuing."

"Last year was a year in which the spread of COVID-19 came to an end and economic activity normalized rapidly.
For Cross Compass, which mainly provides artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to manufacturing field, during the coronavirus pandemic, entry to factory has been restricted, and opportunities to develop and provide solutions have drastically decreased, putting us in an extremely difficult business situation. I remember that even for the engineers, it was frustrating because they were unable to support the people in the factory with the solutions they had developed. I personally felt very frustrated due to the spread of the coronavirus infection at the perfect time for me to realize a dream that I had not been able to achieve at my previous job.
Since 2021, it had gradually been possible to enter factories, and in 2022, our AI solution had be introduced to inspection lines at medical parts manufacturing factory in Miyazaki Prefecture, Kyushu.
This AI solution was the ``MANUFACIA solution,'' a field-friendly AI development environment, which our engineers have been developing during the coronavirus pandemic, came into play.
By using this solution, the factory operators were able to easily develop AI in the field and improve accuracy.
This solution was realized because of our engineers focusing on how to make it easy for on-site users to use cutting-edge AI and complex systems.
Last year, in 2023, it was picked up in multiple media and due to enhanced promotions, its use in manufacturing industries and university institutions increased rapidly.
In parallel, our engineers were also able to successfully build a more efficient, higher quality, and more accurate artificial intelligence development environment (ML-Platform: internal tentative name). This makes it possible to significantly expand the application range of conventional visual inspection solutions in near future."

[ new initiative]
"And also, last year we took on three new initiatives.
The first would be a business alliance with Gigalogy Co., Ltd., which has cloud-based AI/Machine Learning infrastructure. Gigalogy is a venture company selected by JETRO as one of the promising AI startups in 2022.
Until now, Cross Compass has mainly developed solutions in on-premises environments for the AI development, but we have formed a business alliance with Gigalogi, Inc. because we want more people to use the AI development environment in coordination with cloud infrastructure.
Already last year, we collaborated to build an AI cloud environment for our customers. And we are also actively working on combining Cross Compass laboratory's (Cross Labs ) strength in large-scale language model technology with Gigalogy's ""customizable GPT development environment"", which is generative AI development solution and currently attracting attention in the market. Another purpose of this business alliance is to ""establish an institution for training digital human resources."" In Japan, it is becoming increasingly difficult to hire and to maintain digital talent, especially highly skilled digital talent. Gigalogy has been established a Bangladeshi CEO and CTO who started their business in Japan, and they have a human network with famous universities in Bangladesh. In addition, Cross Labs has a strong network of Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Life researchers and research institutions around the world. At the same time as our business partnership, we established PAI (Pivotal AI Institute), a digital talent development organization that utilizes these two human networks to gather talented, highly skilled digital talent in Japan and provide them with experience in solving actual digital related issues.
Second, we have reached a basic agreement to form a business partnership with Watermark Co., Ltd., which expands the food business from various angles, and Mr. Haruyuki Yamashita, owner and executive chef of the restaurant ""HAL YAMASHITA."" Cross Compass's cutting-edge digital science and AI (artificial intelligence) technology and ability to solve social issues through years of involvement in manufacturing will form a business alliance with Watermark Co., Ltd., a leading company in the diverse food industry that ""creates delicious smiles."" By doing so, we will build a strong collaborative system for the future to solve various global issues such as human health and global hunger using food and cutting-edge digital and AI technology. We will build a food database.
Third, we have strengthened our digital technology related to web handling. It is no exaggeration to say that manufacturing technology using webs (long thin film materials) as a material is one of Japan's specialties. We have begun the challenge of co-creating a new market by combining this technology with our digital analysis technology. In the world of global web handling technology, the laboratory led by Associate Professor Mr. Sunami of Tokai University ranks among the top three in the world. We have concluded a partnership agreement to strengthen our collaboration with SUNAMI Co., Ltd., which specializes in web handling-related businesses and is run by Mr. Sunami. This makes it possible to improve the accuracy and scope of problem solving in the web handling market.

Our mission is to enrich the lives of all people with cutting-edge technology and provide them with a happy life. This philosophy has not changed since I became president. I will continue to work with our employees, customers and partners this year to achieve this goal.
Cross Compass has three strengths. The first is the strength of our experience and know-how in providing AI solutions for the manufacturing industry. The second strength is Cross Lab's hub function with AI researchers and ALife researchers around the world. The third strength is that we have built a collaborative system with companies that have the same aspirations and take on new challenges in the three areas above.
We hope to leverage these strengths to grow.
We will continue to maintain a spirit of challenge and strive to grow as a company that can contribute both internally and externally.
