August 10, 2021: オリンピックの国別メダル数 (Medals Won by Country during the Tokyo Olympic Games)

 Finally, the Tokyo Olympic Games concluded on August 8, 2021. I return to normal life and am focusing on what I should do.
 Japan won record 58 medals in the Tokyo Olympic Games. However, European countries achieved outstanding results, too. Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and France won 40, 37, 36 and 33 medals, respectively. Among others, it was my big surprise that Great Britain won 65 medals, 7 more than Japan. European countries have a smaller population than Japan. Great Britain and France have around 70 million population, respectively and Germany’ population is around 80 million. Particularly, the Netherlands has only 17 million population. The number of medals won per capita shows that JAPAN is completely defeated by the Netherlands, Great Britain and Italy. I assume that these countries should have better and more efficient training programs and/or supports for athletes which Japan should learn.

　東京オリンピックが終わりました。ボクの気分も元に戻り、落ち着いています。
　今回のオリンピックで日本は、58個のメダルと獲得しました。これは歴代最多だそうです。でも、欧州の国々も素晴らしい結果を残しています。イタリアが40個、ドイツが37個、オランダが36個そしてフランスが33個ですが、一番驚いたのは英国が日本より多い65個を獲得したことです。欧州の国々は日本より遙かに人口が少ないです。英国とフランスが約7000万人、ドイツが8,000万人、オランダに至っては1,700万人です。人口比にすすると、日本のメダル獲得数はオランダ、英国とイタリア完全に負けています。別の見方をすると欧州の選手強化策は、日本より効率的と言え、日本もまだまだ欧州から学ぶことが多いのではと推測します。
