The question that everyone has been asking|employee interview
This time, we will deliver an interview with Mr. Yoakim, who works as a
general manager in the product headquarters system development department.
ー Please introduce yourself first!
A question that everyone is asking,,, I mean everyone,,, “Why did you come to Japan?” As a foreigner in Japan, this is one of the common questions there is.. To make this story short, Japan is Japan. So as a Swede, born and raised in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, I have grown up with a typical Swedish / European culture. When I started to realize at that time electronics like walkmans, TVs, tv-game and other devices were made in Japan, my interest started to want to know why,, When realizing that the language was impossible to understand, I saw that as an challenge and decided to travel to Japan to learn the basics in the language and culture.
Now 17 years later I'm still here.
So now when that's out of the way,,
IT,, how Im I connected to IT, When I was in Middle school, internet started to pop-up, we all use dial up modems at that time, Internet as a hole is a fascinating thing for me, so at a young age I wanted to understand why it worked the way it did, By studying the topic, reading books and surf the web I got deeper and deeper in to how the infrastructure of the internet works,,, With a core understating of network, ip, subnets gateways, nameservers, web servers, mail servers, database servers,, and so on,,, I took the path to learn more about programming, To be able to create stuff, not only homepages,, but also programs, I felt that I found my place, and from there I went in to start to create my own solutions, both from scratch but also started to use different kind of open source projects, and frameworks.. Long story short… As a full-stack, all in one engineer with 3 and a quarter language knowledge(Swedish, Japanese, English and a little bit of Korean), I just love my situation in time and place..

I started to work for Buzzreach before the name was even decided. I helped out with our core and helped to lay the first stones of our products in 2017.
But I did not join Buzzreach until summer 2019, and started to create Buzzreach own system team.. With a wide knowledge within IT, I do a lot of things,, not only developing tasks, but also take care of things that need to be done to keep us running..

ー Why did you choose Buzzreach?
With an early start, I saw the challenge to be a part of creating a company,
Joining when there were only 5 people, I have seen and been a part of a lot..
It's really fascinating to see our company grow and to be a part of the creation of a company. Its not easy, but a really good challenge.
Working within healthcare development for over 7 years I feel that I have found a new challenge to change how things work in the healthcare industry here in Japan.
ー What kind of company do you want Buzzreach to become in the future?
The products we are developing have started to get released, now when we are entering a market that is still use to use pen and paper, it's a really interesting time to see how its gets accepted, Japan is in the stage of changing its digital footprint in the country,, so also being a part of this is big steps for us.. There will be many new challenges occurring from now on..
