Introduction

It is with pleasure that I welcome this beautiful addition to the short list of books about India that are both a delight to look at and instructive to read.

アラスカを舞台とした写真家の星野道夫氏には、きっかけとなったナショナル・ジオグラフィック社が出版した写真集「Alaska」があった。氏は、この写真集に1972年、神田の古本屋街で出合っている。

世界には、そういう、一人の人の人生を導く、写真がある。

緑に囲まれたベランダで、これまた緑に囲まれた河と熱帯植物の写真を見たとき、メコンデルタの村の静けさと光と風の美しさを思い出す。
