ワールドメディアフェスティバル ドキュメンタリー＜社会問題部門＞で銀賞

　今朝、チェコに住むウクライナ人の友人、Mariko Gelmanさんからニュースが届きました。

　2022年に僕が出展した展覧会『もやい.next』を特集した関西テレビのドキュメンタリー『もやい 福島に吹く風』が、ハンブルグで行われたワールドメディアフェスティバルのドキュメンタリー＜社会問題部門＞で銀賞を受賞したというのです。

　この作品は、2022年のギャラクシー賞奨励賞を受賞していました。震災から10年に合わせて制作された福島中央テレビのドキュメンタリーのように、通常、ギャラクシー賞を受賞した作品はNHKもしくは民放で全国区で放送されます。しかし、この『もやい 福島に吹く風』は、チェルノブイリ原発事故で胎内被曝し甲状腺を摘出したMariko Gelmanさんや、原発事故後に小児甲状腺がんを発症した若者が出てくるからか、近畿2府4県および徳島県でしか放送されませんでした。

　日本では全国放送されず日の目を見ることがなかった作品が、ドイツで行われたコンペティションで評価され銀賞を受賞する。何という皮肉でしょうか。今の日本の報道の自由度を物語っていると思います。

It made me really happy.

This documentary has many sad parallels with the Chernobyl accident: I share my experience of life without a thyroid gland and about my wanderings in hospitals with a sick girl, I am told about bullying due to an "invisible disability" (I had similar experience myself - "you have arms, you have legs, how you can be sick"), I sew myself a yukata from a bag for radioactive waste and listen to sad stories from Fukushima about bones found in booths, with a collar...

And people go and go to our exhibition, bringing dozens of their stories...

So, all these August sleepless nights in the workshop in Hachioji, collaboration and rivers of sweat, instaits and chirping of cicadas, misunderstandings and the joy of finding something in common - all this was not in vain and did not disappear into oblivion like cherry blossoms.

In this film, we created the installation TRANSPARENCY: JAPAN, which is now in the permanent exposition of the museum in the city of Minamisoma.
