夜の飛行機で羽田空港からイスタンブール空港を経由してミュンヘン空港に行きます。
入国手続きをした後の21時頃に早速問題が発生しました。
外務省が運営する「たびレジ」より、ドイツで過去30年で最大規模のストライキが予定されていると情報が入りました。
ストライキの内容は空港・鉄道・バス・高速道路が停止するようです。
実際に以下の通りストライキは実施されました。
ドイツ全土の公共交通機関で、過去30年間で最大規模のストライキが広がった。
複数の都市で高速鉄道「ICE」の運行や空港業務が止まるなど影響が少なくとも数百万人に及んだとされる。
3日目にドイツからイタリアに飛行機で移動する予定であったため、ドイツから出れない可能性が浮上しました。
日本からのフライト前に、予約していたITA Ariwaysへストライキによる対応方針についてメールしました。
結局、このメールに対する返信は1週間以上ありませんでした。
帰国後も電話やメールを何度もして、返金対応されました。
とにかく連絡がつかない航空会社のため、二度と利用することは無いと思います。
飛行機に乗る前からハプニング発生でしたが、とりあえず出国はできました。
1日目
トランジット
飛行機はTurkish Airlinesを利用しました。
機内食や離着陸のスムーズさも含め高評価でした。
アメニティ類も可愛らしいデザインでした。
イスタンブール空港に到着しました。
中東味のある空港で海外に来た感を得られました。
無事トランジットも成功し、午前9時頃、ミュンヘン空港に到着しました。
この空港は無機質である意味ドイツを感じました。
また、ミュンヘン中央駅の付近はタバコが多く落ちており、非常に汚いです。
至る所からマリファナ？の匂いもして、臭かったです。
ストライキ対応の作戦会議
まずは早めのランチとして人気店「Augustiner Klosterwirt」に行きました。
ドイツの食事で一番美味しかったのは、この店でした。
ビールにソーセージを食べました。
全部で38.5ユーロ (約5,600円) でした。
食事を楽しみながら、ストライキへの対応を考えました。
3日目に利用する予定だったITA Airwaysは連絡がつかないので、自力でイタリアのローマに行くことにしました。
2日目はノイシュバンシュタイン城のチケットを予約していたので、その夜にFlixBus社の夜行バスを利用するようにしました。
チケットの購入とバス乗り場の事前確認のため、バスターミナル「Munich」に行きました。
ここでも災難があり、チケットオフィスはリノベーションのため、閉まっていました。
結局、オンラインでチケットを購入を試みましたが、クレジットカードでの購入だとエラーが表示されます。
VISAやAMEXなど複数種類のクレカを試しましたが、すべてエラーが吐かれました。
ネットで調べると、クレカでエラーが起きやすいようで、PayPalなら成功したレビューを見つけました。
急遽、PayPalを登録し、なんとかチケットを無事に購入することができました。
また、バスターミナルということもあり、FlixBusの運転手を見つけました。
なんとか明日の便はストライキの影響がないことを確認できました。
ミュンヘン観光
ようやくドイツ脱出の目処が立ったので、ミュンヘン観光に出ました。
時間がないながらも、楽しむことができました。
ミュンヘン大聖堂 (Frauenkirche) は外観のみ眺めました。
マリエン広場やミュンヘン新市庁舎、バイエルン国立歌劇場も見ました。
残念だったのが、ホフブロイハウスでビールを飲めなかったことです。
適当に席に座り注文をする形式なのですが、混雑しており少し待っても席が空かず諦めました。
ドイツと言えば「Steiff Shop München」にも行きました。
たくさんクマがいましたので、2匹ほど連れて帰ってきました。
57.8ユーロ (約8,000円) でした。
夕食は「ラーツケラー・ミュンヘン」に行きました。
美味しかったのですが、ドイツのご飯は油分が多く、お腹が疲れました。
また、ほぼすべての料理で塩辛いザワークラウトが出てくるので、当分の間はザワークラウトは食べなくて良いなと思いました。
全部で53.7ユーロ (約7,800円) でした。
また、海外あるあるのトイレで残念な思いをしました。
レストラン内のトイレに行ったら、1ユーロ程度が必要でした。
日本感覚でお金を持たずに席を立ったので、用を足せずトボトボと席に戻りました。
スーパーで明日の朝食などを買いつつ、ホテルに戻りました。
ホテルはミュンヘン中央駅の近くにある「キングス ホテル ファースト クラス」を利用しました。
2人で一泊して約19,000円でした。
ストライキがあるので、1泊キャンセルしたいと伝えたら、快く受け入れてくれました (キャンセル料も無料)。
しかし、エクスペディアで予約していたため、エクスペディアを経由してキャンセルする必要がありました。
エクスペディアとの連絡は3日目まで続きましたが、なんとか解決しました。エクスペディアのチャットは勝手に翻訳されるため、言語を英語に切り替え、英語でコミュニケーションした方が早い場合があります。
2日目
サマータイム
サマータイムは3月の最終日曜日から始まり、午前1時に1時間だけ時計が進みます。
つまり、00:59の1分後は02:00のような切り替えが発生します。
iPhoneの時計は、自動的にサマータイム時間になる情報は得られました。
しかし、切り替わらなかった時に大惨事になるため、切り替わりの確認を実施しました。
その結果、期待通りiPhoneはサマータイムに自動移行されたことを確認しました。
具体的には以下の方法で確認しています。
・iPhoneを機内モードにします
・03:00にアラームをセットして起床します
・機内モードを解除した時に04:00になることを確認します
ノイシュヴァンシュタイン城
東京ディズニーランドのシンデレラ城のモデルとも言われるノイシュバンシュタイン城に行きました。
カリフォルニアの「眠れる森の美女の城」とも呼ばれています。
ツアーは高かったので、電車とバスを乗り継ぎました。
ストライキは次の日から開始だったため、この日は電車もバスも動いていたのは幸運でした。
以下のようなルートを利用しました。
ミュンヘン中央駅 --> 約2時間 --> Füssen駅 --> 3分 --> Füssen (バス停) --> 約10分 --> Neuschwanstein Castles, Schwangau (バス停) --> 徒歩5分 --> 馬車乗り場 --> 約20分 -->馬車降り場 --> 徒歩10分 --> ノイシュバンシュタイン城
バイエルンチケットはオンラインで購入し、QRコードを含むPDFをメールで受信しました。
フュッセン行きの電車はミュンヘン中央駅の右奥の「31」に来ていました。
朝一のためか電車内は綺麗で、車内も静かでした。
車内は飲食が許可されているため、前日にスーパーで買ったトマトやカットフルーツや駅の売店で買ったプレッツェルを朝食として食べました。
電車は予定通りフュッセンに到着しました。
次はバスに乗り継ぐため、バス停に向かいます。
駅からすぐ近くバス停があり、バスもバイエルンチケットで乗車することができます。
10分くらいバスに乗りました。
ノイシュバンシュタイン城の近くにあるホーエンシュヴァンガウ城に行きます。
バス停から徒歩で15分くらいの場所にあります。
ホーエンシュヴァンガウ城はインターネットで英語ガイドを予約しました (英語かドイツ語を選択できます)。
集合時間になると呼ばれるので、ガイドがチケットのQRコードを読み取り、入城を許可されます。
入場すると音声ガイドを貰いました (日本語も選択が可能でした)。
日本語の音声ガイドは英語の音声ガイドに比べ、説明時間が長いようです。
ガイドと他の観光客を少し待たせてしまいました。
壁に耳あり障子に目ありの由来の城でもあるようです。
部屋を温めるシステムが普通と少し異なります。
薪ストーブが部屋の外に存在することで、貴族と薪の補給を行う下働きの者を別室に分けられます。
貴族の部屋は、隣の部屋にあるストーブの熱が壁を通して伝えわることで、温まります。
そのため、壁は普通より薄くできており、壁に耳を当てることで会話が聞こえたようです。
あまり期待せずに行きましたが、内装や景色は予想以上に美しく大満足でした。
次はノイシュヴァンシュタイン城に向かいます。
徒歩だと30分くらいの坂道を登るのですが、せっかくなので馬車を利用しました。
2人で1,500円くらいだったと思います。
ノイシュバンシュタイン城の予約まで少し時間があったので軽食を取ります。
馬車降り場の近くの「シュロスレストラン ノイシュヴァンシュタイン」に行きました。
ビールとスープとソーセージで31.3ユーロ (約7,800円) でした。
馬車を降りてからも坂を10分ほど歩いたと思います。
門の前にいた職員に予約時に払い出されたQRコードを読み取ってもらい、入城することができました。
中も見学したましたが、あまり覚えていません。
お土産ショップでは楽しかった記憶があり、ビールグラスやトートバックなど約9,500円も使用しました。
それよりも外観の印象が強く、非常に美しかったです。
特にマリエン橋からの眺めは圧巻でした。
ホーエンシュヴァンガウ城とノイシュヴァンシュタイン城を合わせて2人で82ユーロ (約12,000円) でした。
帰りは馬車にもシャトルバスにも乗らず徒歩で停留所まで降りましたが、足元が悪かったので馬車に乗っておけばよかったです。
帰りの電車までフュッセンの街並みを観光しました。
可愛らしい色合いで、メルヘンという言葉がぴったりでした。
小腹が減ったので駅前のパン屋「Landbäckerei Sinz Füssen」でクロワッサンを購入し、帰りの電車に乗りました。
海外のクロワッサンはどこで買っても美味しいです。
帰りの電車は夕方に乗ったためか、清掃が行き届いていなく綺麗ではなかったです。
ミュンヘン中央駅に到着したのは18時頃だったと多います。
夜行バス
まずは夕食ですが、胃が疲れたのでアジア料理「LeboQ - Fine Asia Cuisine」に行きました。
サラダボウルとヌードルを頼み優しい味が沁みました。
全部で15.5ユーロ (約2,200円) でした。
ホテルに預けていた荷物をピックアップして、バスターミナルに行きました。
ターミナルはストライキのドイツから脱出を試みる人も多かったと思います。
男女2人組もいましたが、この混乱のためか彼女がヒステリーを起こしており、彼氏側は大変そうだなと我々は横目で見ていました。
電光掲示板に出発時刻と行き先が表示されているので、それを確認してプラットフォームに移動します。
バスにも行き先が表示されているので、該当のバスは探し出せました。
ただ、出発時刻の数分前に該当のバスがターミナルに来たので、少し焦りました。
車内は思ったよりも広く、充電ケーブルもあったので期待以上でした。
車内にトイレも付いていたので安心です。
実際、トイレは道中で何回かPA的なものに停留しましたので、そこで行きました。
日々の睡眠不足もあり、問題なく睡眠できました。
明朝、無事にローマに到着しました。
夜行バスは直前に予約したこともあり、2人で305.98ユーロ (約45,000円) でした。

Depart from Japan
We took a night flight from Haneda Airport to Munich Airport via Istanbul Airport.
The problem arose promptly around 9:00 p.m. after we had completed immigration procedures.
We received information from “Tabiregi” operated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the largest strike in the past 30 years is scheduled in Germany.
The strike will affect airports, railroads, buses, and highways.
Actually, the strike took place as follows
The largest strike in the last 30 years spread across Germany's public transportation system.
It is estimated that at least several million people were affected, as high-speed train “ICE” services and airport operations were suspended in several cities.
Since we were scheduled to fly from Germany to Italy on the third day, the possibility arose that we might not be able to leave Germany.
Prior to my departure from Japan, we emailed ITA Ariways, where we had made reservations, regarding their policy for handling the situation due to the strike.
In the end, there was no response to this email for over a week.
After returning home, we had to call and email several times to get a refund response.
Anyway, we don't think we will use this airline again as they are unreachable.
Although it was happening even before we boarded the plane, we were able to leave Germany.
Day 1
Transit in Istanbul
We flew Turkish Airlines.
The flight was highly rated, including the food and smooth takeoff and landing.
The amenities were also designed in a lovely way.
We arrived at Istanbul Airport.
The Middle Eastern flavor of the airport gave us a sense of being abroad.
After a successful transit, we arrived at Munich Airport around 9:00 am.
This airport was inorganic and felt German in a sense.
Also, the area near Munich central station is very dirty with a lot of cigarettes falling out.
There was also the smell of like marijuana.
Strategy meeting on the strike
We first went to the popular restaurant "Augustiner Klosterwirt" for an early lunch.
It was the best meal we had in Germany.
We had beer and sausages.
All in all, it cost us 38.5 euros (about 5,600 JPY).
While enjoying our meal, we considered our response to the strike.
ITA Airways, which we had planned to use on day 3, was unreachable, so we decided to go to Rome, Italy, on our own.
On day 2, we had booked tickets to Neuschwanstein Castle, so we decided to take the FlixBus overnight bus that night.
We went to the bus terminal “Munich” to purchase tickets and to pre-check bus stops.
Here, too, there was a mishap: the ticket office was closed for renovation.
Eventually, we attempted to purchase tickets online and the credit card purchase threw up an error.
We tried multiple types of credit cards, including VISA and AMEX, but they all threw up errors.
When we searched Google, it seemed that errors were more likely to occur with credit cards, and we found a review that PayPal was successful.
We urgently registered PayPal and managed to purchase the ticket successfully.
Also, being a bus terminal, we found a FlixBus driver.
We confirmed that the night bus will not be affected by tomorrow's strike.
Sightseeing in Munich
We finally had a chance to escape Germany, so we went sightseeing in Munich.
Although we didn't have much time, we were able to enjoy it.
Frauenkirche was seen only from the outside.
We also saw Marienplatz, Munich's New Town Hall, and the Bavarian State Opera.
Unfortunately, we could not drink beer at the Hofbräuhaus.
We had to sit down at a table and order, but it was so crowded that we had to give up after waiting for a while.
Speaking of Germany, we also went to “Steiff Shop München”.
There were many bears, so we brought home two of them.
The price was about 57.8 euros (about 8,000 JPY).
For dinner, we went to "Rathskeller Munich".
It was delicious, but the German food was very oily and our stomach was tired.
Also, almost all dishes were served with salty sauerkraut, which made me think that we don't need to eat sauerkraut for the time being.
All in all, it cost 53.7 euros (about 7,800 JPY).
We also had a disappointing experience in the restroom, which is a common occurrence in other countries.
When I went to the restroom in the restaurant, I had to pay about 1 euro.
I got up from my seat without money, just like in Japan, and returned to my seat without doing my business.
We bought breakfast for tomorrow at the supermarket and returned to the hotel.
We stayed at “Kings Hotel First Class” near Munich Central Station, which cost about 19,000 JPY per night for two people.
We told the receptionist we wanted to cancel one night because of a strike and she accepted (and no cancellation fee).
However, since we had booked through Expedia, we had to cancel through Expedia.
Contact with Expedia lasted until the third day, but we managed to resolve the issue.
Expedia chat is translated by itself, so it may be faster to switch the language to English and communicate in English instead of Japanese.
Day 2
Daylight savings time
Daylight saving time begins on the last Sunday in March, and the clocks go forward one hour at 1:00 am.
This means that one minute after 00:59 am the switch occurs as 02:00 am.
The iPhone clock was able to get the information that the time would automatically become daylight saving time.
However, because of the catastrophe that would occur when it did not switch, we confirmed the switchover.
As a result, we confirmed that the iPhone was automatically switched to daylight saving time as expected.
Specifically, the following method was used to confirm the changeover.
- Set your iPhone to Airplane mode
- Set an alarm for 03:00 am and wake up
- Confirm that the time changes to 04:00 am when you take your iPhone out of Airplane Mode
Neuschwanstein Castle
We visited Neuschwanstein Castle, which is said to be the model for Cinderella Castle in Tokyo Disneyland.
It is also called the model for Sleeping Beauty Castle in California.
Tours were expensive, so we took the train and bus.
We were lucky that both trains and buses were working that day because the strike started the next day.
We used the following route:
Munich Central Station --> about 2 hours --> Füssen Station --> 3 minutes --> Füssen (bus stop) --> about 10 minutes --> Neuschwanstein Castles, Schwangau (bus stop) --> 5 minutes walk --> carriage stop --> about 20 minutes --> carriage stop --> 10 minutes walk --> Neuschwanstein Castle
The Bayern ticket was purchased online and received via email a PDF containing a QR code.
The train to Füssen was stopping at “31” where the far right side of Munich Central Station.
The train was clean and the interior was quiet, probably because it was the first train of the morning.
Eating and drinking were allowed on the train, so we had tomatoes and cut fruits we bought at the supermarket the day before and pretzels we bought at the station store as breakfast.
The train arrived in Füssen on schedule.
Next, we headed to the bus station to transfer to the bus.
There was a bus stop very close to the station, and buses could be boarded with a Bavarian ticket.
We rode the bus for about 10 minutes.
We were going to Hohenschwangau Castle near Neuschwanstein Castle.
It is about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop.
Hohenschwangau Castle booked an English-speaking guide online (you can choose English or German).
At the appointed time, we were called and the guide read the QR code on our tickets and allowed us to enter the castle.
Upon entering, we were given an audio guide (Japanese was also an option).
The Japanese audio guide seemed to have a longer explanation time than the English audio guide.
We had to wait a bit for the guide and other tourists.
It seems to be the castle from which the proverb “the walls have ears” originated.
The system for heating the rooms is slightly different from the norm.
The presence of a wood stove outside the room separates the nobles from the menial workers who supply them with wood.
The nobles' rooms are heated by the heat from the stove in the adjacent room being transmitted through the walls.
For this reason, the walls were thinner than usual, and it seems that conversations could be heard by placing one's ear against the wall.
We went there without much expectation, but was very satisfied with the interior and the view, which was more beautiful than we expected.
Next, we headed to Neuschwanstein Castle.
It is a 30-minute walk up the hill, but we took a horse-drawn carriage since we were going all the way.
I think it cost about 1,500 yen for two people.
We had some time before my appointment at Neuschwanstein Castle, so we decided to have a light meal.
We went to “Schloss Restaurant Neuschwanstein” near the coach stop.
The price was about 31.3 euros (about 7,800 JPY) for beer, soup and sausage.
After getting off the carriage, I think it was another 10-minute walk up the hill.
We were able to enter the castle by having a staff member at the gate read the QR code that was issued at the time of our reservation.
We also toured the inside of the castle, but we don't remember much.
We remember enjoying the souvenir store and buying some beer glasses and a tote bag.
The castle was very impressive from the outside and very beautiful.
The view from Marien Bridge was especially breathtaking.
The tour of Hohenschwangau Castle and Neuschwanstein Castle cost 82 euros (about 12,000 JPY) for two people.
On the way back, we walked down to the stop instead of taking the carriage or the shuttle bus, but we should have taken the carriage because the footing was bad.
While waiting for the train on the way back, we took a tour of the city of Füssen.
It was a fairy tale with lovely colors.
Before boarding the train, we were hungry and bought a croissant at Landbäckerei Sinz Füssen, a bakery in front of the station.
Croissants in Europe are delicious no matter where you buy them.
The return train was not clean, probably because we took it in the evening.
We arrived around 6 pm at Munich Central Station.
Night bus
For dinner, our stomach was tired, so we went to LeboQ - Fine Asia Cuisine.
We ordered a salad bowl and noodles and enjoyed the gentle taste.
The total cost was 15.5 euros (about 2,200 JPY).
We picked up my luggage from the hotel and went to the bus terminal.
Supposedly, the terminal was full of people trying to get out of Germany on strike.
We saw a woman in hysterics due to this confusion.
The man who was with the woman seemed to be having a hard time.
The departure time and destination are displayed on the electronic board, so move to the appropriate platform.
The destination is also displayed on the buses, so I was able to find the bus in question.
However, we were a bit nervous because the bus arrived at the terminal a few minutes before the departure time.
The interior of the car was larger than we expected and had charging cables, which exceeded my expectations.
The car also had a restroom inside.
In fact, we stopped at a PA-like thing several times along the way to use the restroom, so we went there.
With the lack of daily sleep, I sleeped without any problems.
Tomorrow morning, the bus arrived safely in Rome.
The night bus cost 305.98 euros (about 45,000 JPY) for the two of us, having been booked at the last minute.
