The guest is originally from Louisiana in America.

Currently, she is based in India but has previously lived in many countries and worked at various schools, which led us to having fascinating conversations.（現在はインドに住んでいますが、以前に多くの国に住み、様々な学校で働いていたため、興味深い会話ができました）
Not only did we enjoy sake together, but we also enjoyed talking about many different topics.

Our discussion lasted about five hours and covered a wide range of topics, making it a truly memorable experience.

We both shared our experiences as teachers, discussing the joys and challenges of the profession.

We compared the "tiger parents" in India with the "monster parents" in Japan, noting how approaches to discipline and expectations for kids differ between the two cultures.
（インドの「タイガーペアレンツ」と日本の「モンスターペアレンツ」を比較し、しつけへのアプローチや子供への期待値が両国の文化でどのように異なるかについて話し合いました）
＊Naming Trends and Education：名付けのトレンドと教育
She teaches at an international school and has many Japanese students, including second and third graders.
（彼女はインターナショナルスクールで教えており、多くの日本人学生、特に2年生や3年生がいます）
This made us want to talk about how differently Japanese parents tend to name their children today compared to previous generations, with more sparkly and gender-neutral names.

We also touched on the differences between Japan and India in terms of educating children.

In Japan, parents often teach their children not to cause trouble for others, but in India, parents have a different perspective on this.
（日本では、親が子供に他人に迷惑をかけないように教えることが多いですが、インドではこの点について異なる見解があります）
While Japanese parents want their children to be attentive, caring, considerate, and selfless in social settings to avoid causing trouble for others, Indian parents believe it's natural for children to cause trouble and that's just part of being a kid.
（日本の親は、社会の中で子供たちが他人に迷惑をかけないように、注意深く、思いやりがあり、気配りができ、利他的であることを望んでいるのに対して、インドの親は、子供が他人に迷惑をかけるのは自然なこと、そしてそれが子供というものだと考えています）
So, Indian parents don't emphasize being a good team player as a child.

Instead, they focus more on how their children will behave as adults.

The idea is that you cause trouble as a kid, but when you grow up, you should be kind and lenient towards the kids around you.
（子供の頃は他人に迷惑をかけるものなので、大人になったときには周りの子供たちに優しく寛大であるべきだという考えです）
The important thing is growing into compassionate and empathetic adults.
（重要なのは、共感と優しさを持った大人に成長することです）
＊Dogs, Rabies and animals in India：犬、狂犬病、インドの動物
We shared our love for dogs and discussed rabies, comparing prevention measures in different countries.
（私たちは犬好きなことをシェアし、狂犬病について話し合い、各国の予防策を比較しました）
While getting a rabies vaccine is free in many countries, it isn't in Japan.
（多くの国では狂犬病の予防接種は無料ですが、日本ではそうではありません）
She noted that in India, wild animals like monkeys and cows are commonly seen, and driving can be chaotic due to the numerous motorbikes and cows on the roads, with traffic rules often ignored.
（彼女は、インドでは猿や牛などの野生動物がよく見られ、道路には多くのバイクや牛がおり、また交通ルールが無視されることが多いため、運転はカオスになることがあると教えてくれました）
＊Baseball and Stadium Food：野球とスタジアムの食べ物
Our shared passion for baseball led us to discuss players like Shohei Ohtani, Yu Darvish, and Ichiro, as well as a baseball movie "Moneyball."
（共通して野球が好きなことから、大谷翔平、ダルビッシュ有、イチローなどの選手や、野球の映画「マネーボール」について話し合いました）
We also talked about stadium food, such as the unique large beer cup with lots of chicken surrounding the straw at New York Yankees games.
（また、ニューヨーク・ヤンキースの試合で見られ、周りに大量のチキンが付いた大きなビールカップのような、ユニークなスタジアムフードについても話しました）
＊Izakaya Manners：居酒屋のマナー
We discussed proper behavior and etiquette in Japanese izakayas.
（私たちは日本の居酒屋での適切な行動やマナーについて話し合いました）
For example, yelling at servers to get their attention is common in Japan but considered rude in America.
（例えば、日本では店員さんの注意を引くために大きな声で呼ぶことが一般的ですが、アメリカではそれは失礼とされています）
＊Safety in Japan：日本の安全性
From her time in Hiroshima before coming to Himeji, we started talking about how safe Japan is.
（彼女が姫路に来る前に広島にいた経験から、日本の安全性について話し始めました）
While she was not allowed to go out by herself until she became a teenager, it is common in Japan to see 7-year-olds taking the train alone.
（彼女はティーンエイジャーになるまで一人で外出することを許されませんでしたが、日本では7歳の子供が一人で電車に乗るのを見るのは普通のことです）
＊Adapting to New Cultures：新しい文化への適応
Having lived in many countries, she had to adapt to new surroundings, which helped her become proficient with chopsticks.

She noted that Japanese chopsticks are particularly well-designed for picking up food, whereas Chinese chopsticks are flatter and Korean ones are long and metal, making them harder to handle.

The highlight of our conversation was to realize again that there are so many different lifestyles and ways of living in the world.

We shared stories about the countries we have visited and our future travel plans, emphasizing how different lifestyles and ways of living are not necessarily good or bad, just different.

This perspective deepened our understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures and experiences.
