難病になってしまった父親と息子の野球を通じた友情を描いています『英訳』 ①

The sun is brightly shining

“To the batting center”

In the relentless summer heat, My sweat was streaming down my arms as I was pushing the wheelchair.

My dad, on the wheelchair, was also sweating so bad. Since he hasn’t stepped outside for many years, It might’ve been bad for him to get exposed to summer heat.

But my dad seemed to have enjoyed being outside as he was wiping his sweat off with the towel around his neck.

My dad had been suffering from the disease called SCD, since I was 15, which made it difficult for him to walk, talk, and eventually bedridden at his last moment.

The most painful thing about this disease is since he is conscious, he had to live hopelessly and wait for his time to be bedridden.

However, my dad, like the star from Showa era, never got quiet in spite of his illness. Instead, he drank his favorite I-chiko and fell down the stairs at home lol

Then he started his life in hospital.

By the way, I’m telling you the reason why I’m pushing the wheelchair in the summer heat.

As years have passed by, my dad became feeble by degrees that he couldn’t even wake himself up. Whenever he opened up his mouth, he’d say “I’m tired. That’s enough. I want to end this”.

My mother, who came to take everything negatively, would be strongly against him go out.

But I, just turned 20, filled with dreams and hopes, was more energetic.

My idea was taking my dad out to the batting center in Yotsugi, which is 3 kilometers away from where he was hospitalized. I thought if he sees my developed batting skill, he gets his dignity back as a father figure and retrieve his hope to live once again.

Then my dad and I started walking toward the batting center as I wished so.
