Traveling In Shanghai #31

     I have been to Shanghai once with my friends.  There were many cultural differences.
     First, China is large.  One of the things that surprised me happened in a supermarket.  The supermarket was very huge, and the employees were roller-skating around while they were working.
     Second, using public restrooms costs money.  We needed to buy toilet paper from a vending machine.
     Third, there were too many people.  Because people were always waiting for taxis, it looked like they were in a war to get a taxi.  In subway, it was hard to get on and off.  Of course, there were a lot of people in the trains. Even though people were trying to get on and off, the doors didn't care about those people and the doors closed.  I wonder if the driver controlled openings and closings or the doors closed automatically.  Finally, we needed to get off the train but my friend was far from the door.  When he moved towards the exit, he pushed a young woman out of the train.  She got very irritated and expressed her anger against us because she needed to stay in the train.   I want to apologize her at this late date.

　１つめ。中国は広い。私をおどろかせたことの１つはスーパーでのことだった。そのスーパーはとても大きくて、従業員たちは働きながらローラースケートで移動していた。 
　２つめ。公衆トイレを使うときにお金がかかった。トイレットペーパーを自動販売機から買わなえればいけなかったのだ。
　３つめ。人が多すぎる。いつでも人がタクシーを待っているので、タクシーをひろうだけなのに戦争をしているように見えた。地下鉄では、乗り降りするのが難しかった。もちろん列車の中にはたくさんの人が乗っていた。人々が乗ったり降りたりしようとしていたにもかかわらず、ドアはそういった人々を気にせずに閉まった。運転手がドアの開け閉めをコントロールしていたのか、ドアが自動的に閉まったのだろうか。とうとう私たちも降りる必要が出てきたのだが、私の友人はドアから遠くにいた。彼が出口に向かって移動したとき、若い女性を押し出してしまった。彼女は列車に乗っている必要があったので、非常にイライラしだして私たちに対して怒りをぶつけた。今さらだが彼女に謝りたい。
