July 6, 2024: Failure （しくじり）

The other day, I really messed up. I knocked over a bottle of a fountain pen's ink and spilt the ink over the desk. The ink covered one-third of the desk. It was as if it had been a pool of blue blood. The mess had begun when I knocked over the bottle a few days ago. But I did not mind knocking over the bottle and left it there.  I meant to have firmly closed the lid, so I was convinced that no ink was supposed to spill out of the bottle. But it was wrong. A few days later, I found that a box on the desk turned the ink blue. I panicked at it and looked around the box. Then, I found the ink had spilt around the box, too. And it had spread under a PC monitor. I was lucky that the ink had not damaged the monitor directly. It damaged the stand of the PC monitor. So, I struggled hard to wipe the table to remove the ink with paper and a towel. First, I tried to get rid of the ink with paper. But it was not good enough to remove the large amount of ink. So, I rushed to a washroom to pick up a towel. And I tried to get rid of the ink with it. But I failed to wipe it off completely once and had to go back to the washroom to wash the towel. Then, I wiped the table again. I repeated it several times, and I managed to remove the ink from the table completely.
This matter seems to suggest that it is time for me to stop using a fountain pen.

　先日、へまをしました。万年筆のインクのボトルを倒して、机の上にインクをこぼしてしまったのです。机の3分の1はインクで覆われ、まるで青い血の海のようでした。ヘマは、数日前にボトルを倒してしまったのが始まりです。でも、ボトルが倒れても気にもせず、そのままにしておきました。蓋をしっかり閉めていたので、インクがこぼれるはずはないと思い込んでいました。でも、完全な間違いでした。数日後、机の上の箱がインクの青に変色しているのに気付いたのです。慌てて箱の周りを見渡しました。すると、箱の周りにもインクがこぼれていたのです。そして、PCモニターの下にも広がっていました。幸い、モニターに直接の被害はありませんでしたが、モニターのスタンドが被害にあいました。そのため、紙とタオルでテーブルを拭いて、必死でインクをふき取ろうとしました。まず、紙でインクをふき取ろうとしたのですが、インクが多すぎて、取り除くには不十分でした。そこで急いで洗面所にタオルを取りに行き、タオルでインクを拭き取りました。でも、一度では完全に拭き取れず、タオルを洗うために洗面所に戻らねばなりませんでした。そして、また、またテーブルを拭きました。これを何度か繰り返し、なんとかテーブルからインクを完全にふき取ることができました。
　もう万年筆を使うのはあきらめたほうがよさそうです!
