Tell us about your career

After I graduated from university, I started work at a Japanese insurer. It was a management associate-type sales role at an insurance agency. I worked in that role for 3.5 years. Today I'm working in Singapore at a Japanese insurer on a local package.

What was your first overseas experience?

It was during summer vacation of my second year of high school. There was a short-term 1 month stay in Hawaii. I stayed with different families every week and that really changed my views. Subsequently I did a 8 month exchange program in Canada during university.

My interest in going overseas was piqued by some of my friends in high school. There were many returnees from overseas. I felt that they were positive and open-minded and they weren't obsessively competitive like others. I come from a rather rural area in Tochigi prefecture and it's the type of place where everyone knows everyone and you are always comparing yourself to others. And so I was surprised how these returnees weren't like that and that made me curious about going overseas.
