　このマガジンでは、僕のバンド THE MOLICEの曲やビデオについてのことを描いたり紹介したりしたいと思う。

　この曲は、僕らの6th アルバム『SIGNS』に収録されている"Round Round Round”という曲だ。なぜこの曲を最初に紹介しようと思ったのか。ふと閃いたから、としか言えない。この曲の空気感がとても懐かしくなることがある。僕の心を強く惹きつける。作詞作曲はRinkoである。歌詞を紹介しよう。

　僕はこの歌詞を書いた人間ではないので、その意味などを説明することはできない。初めてこの曲の歌詞を聴いた時、冒頭の「孤独の果てを見た　そこにはみんながいた。」というフレーズがとても印象に残った。歌詞全編に漂う、切なさに満ちた解放感と希望。そんな雰囲気がとても好きだ。
　この曲をレコーディングしたのは2016年。アメリカでの二度目のアルバム制作だった。渡米前の準備期間中に作った曲だった。最初にRinkoが曲を持ってきた時から、この完成形の雰囲気だった。どこか悲しく、寂しさや荒涼とした感じがとても気に入って、ギターフレーズを考えた。仕上がりまでそれほど時間はかからなかった。ギターフレーズはどうやって考えるのか？と聞かれることがあるが、全てひらめきである。曲がフレーズを導く。僕はただそれを待つだけ。その流れがとてもスムーズな時もあれば、ひどく時間がかかる時もある。この時はとてもスムーズだったと記憶している。アメリカでのサウンドプロダクションも素晴らしく、満足のいく出来栄えだった。ビデオ撮影も同じくアメリカである。ロケ地はレコーディングで滞在したバッファローとニューヨークシティ、それからオハイオのライブハウスである。バッファローでは、綺麗な夕焼けを何度も見た。アメリカは空が広い。初めてNYCに行き、マンハッタン橋と摩天楼を見た時の衝撃は忘れられない。その衝撃の中で撮影をしていた。ドラムを抱えて歩き回っていた。曲の空気感と映像の組み合わせがとても好きだ。
　曲・サウンド・歌詞、そして映像。これが全て一つにまとまった時は、素晴らしい高揚がある。創作というものの興奮と喜びを心から味わえる瞬間である。そんな曲だ。このどこまでも果てしなく広がっていくような寂しさと喜び。矛盾するような不思議なパワーをもった曲なのだ。是非聴いてください。

Why did I decide to introduce this song first? I can only say that it just came to me. The atmosphere of this song sometimes makes me nostalgic. It has a strong pull on my heart. I am not the one who wrote these lyrics, so I cannot explain their meaning. When I first heard the lyrics of this song, the opening line, "I saw the end of loneliness, and there everyone was." I was very impressed by the phrase. I really like the atmosphere of sadness, liberation, and hope that pervades the entire lyrics. I love that kind of atmosphere.

We recorded this song in 2016. It was our second time making an album in the US. It was a song created during the preparation period before we came to the US. From the first time Rinko brought the song to us, it had this finished vibe. I really liked the somewhat sad, lonely and desolate feel of the song and came up with the guitar phrases. It didn't take me too long to finish it. I am sometimes asked, "How do you come up with the guitar phrases?” I am sometimes asked, "How do you come up with the guitar phrases? The song leads me to the phrase. I just wait for it. Sometimes the flow is very smooth, and sometimes it takes a long time. This time I remember it was very smooth. The sound production in the U.S. was excellent, and I was very satisfied with the results. The video was also shot in the US. The locations were Buffalo, where we stayed for recording, New York City, and a live music club in Ohio. In Buffalo, I saw many beautiful sunsets. The sky is wide in America. I will never forget the shock I felt when I went to NYC for the first time and saw the Manhattan Bridge and skyscrapers. We were shooting in the midst of that shock. I was walking around with drums. I love the combination of the atmosphere of the song and the video.　
The song, the sound, the lyrics, and the video. When it all comes together, there is a wonderful elation. It is a moment when you can truly experience the excitement and joy of creation. Such is the case with this song. The loneliness and joy that seems to spread out endlessly in all directions. It is a song with a mysterious power that seems to contradict itself.
