"小江戸"川越に行ってきました。 Visit KOEDO (little Edo), KAWAGOE

先日、小江戸川越に行ってきました。恥ずかしながら、埼玉県に住んで40年以上が経過していますが、”初めて”川越を堪能してきました。
今回、川越を探訪した理由は、もともと娘に薦められていたことと、・・・とある研究会で清酒輸出プロジェクト（仮）を立上げており、日本酒についての知識がド素人であったため、埼玉県の日本酒を勉強するためでした。
遺伝的にもアルコールに弱いため、日本酒というものにはあまり興味はなかったのですが、ちょっとだけ日本酒の歴史等を知ると引き込まれる世界だと感じています。（日本酒が好きな方はそんなことは知っている、という感じなんでしょうね）
The other day, I visited Koedo Kawagoe. Kawagoe (川越) is located in southwestern Saitama prefecture, north of Tokyo, and it takes about 60 minutes by train from central Tokyo area. It is famous for many traditional buildings which have earned it the nickname Koedo (literally "Little Edo").
It's been more than 40 years since I started to live in Saitama, but it was my "first" time to visit and enjoy Kawagoe.
I visited Kawagoe because my daughter recommended it to me and also because ... I am starting up a sake export project (tentative) in a certain research group. My knowledge about sake is very amateur, so I wanted to learn about sake in Saitama Prefecture.
Genetically, I can get drunk easily, so I was not really interested in sake, but once I learned a little bit about the history of sake, I found myself drawn into the world of sake. (I guess those who like sake know all about it.)

By the way, I read this book to acquire basic knowledge about sake. It was very easy to understand, and I learned a lot, including the historical context of sake.

小江戸蔵里へ/ Go to KOEDO KURARI

小江戸蔵里では、埼玉県にある34酒蔵のお酒をお手軽に試飲することができます。試飲機専用のメダル（ご参考：1枚500円で4種類のお酒を選択可能）を購入し、好みのお酒を試飲することができます。試飲機には、縦軸に”酸度”、横軸に”日本酒度”という指標で、どのお酒がどのタイプなのか分かりやすくなっており、日本酒初心者でもこの味がこの程度の甘口ね、ああ、これが辛口なのね、というように認識することができます。
　ちなみに試飲といっても、お猪口で2杯くらいの量があるメダル3枚も購入すれば、お酒に弱い私は、すぐにほろ酔い気分となってしまいました。34酒蔵さんの全てを試飲することはできませんでしたが、事前に決めていた酒蔵さんのお酒を堪能させていただきました！
At Koedo Kurari, you can taste sake from 34 sake breweries in Saitama Prefecture at a convenient price. You can purchase a medal for the sake-tasting machine ( 500 yen per medal for a choice of 4 kinds of sake) and taste the sake of your choice. The tasting machine uses an index of "acidity" on the vertical axis and "sake degree" (the percentage of alcohol) on the horizontal axis to make it easy to identify which type of sake is what so that even sake beginners can recognize that this sake tastes sweet like this and that this sake tastes dry like that. I could not try all of the 34 sake breweries, but I enjoyed the sake of the breweries I had decided on in advance!

Even an amateur sake lover like me can examine the types of sake available and choose the best one for myself. Of course, there is also a souvenir section where you can buy sake to take home.

～食べ歩き～飲み歩き～ (Enjoy Eating & Drinking)

ほろ酔い気分で、非常に良い状態になりますと、何かを食べたくなりますよね。飲むだけでなく、食べ歩きもできるお店がたくさんあります。（知らなかったのは私だけという話もありますが・・・）
When you are feeling a bit tipsy and good, you may want to eat something. There are many restaurants where you can not only drink but also eat. (Some say I am the only one who didn't know that...)

川越で唯一の酒蔵へ/ Visit the Only Sake Brewery in Kawagoe

「鏡山」小江戸川越が誇る幻の銘酒｜小江戸鏡山酒造株式会社

以下写真のような案内がありましたので、酒蔵見学のために待っていると、蔵見学といっても醤油醸造の蔵見学だったのですね。ご案内いただいた方の丁寧な説明とユーモアあふれる案内で醤油にも興味をもち、お土産をいただきました。
We found a notice like the one in the photo below, so we waited for the brewery tour and then found that it was a tour of a soy sauce brewery. The tour guide explained the brewery in detail and humor, which interested us in soy sauce, and we decided to buy some souvenirs.

その他にも見どころ満載の小江戸川越で、本当に灯台下暗しとはこのことかというくらい、堪能させていただきました。
引き続き、埼玉県の日本酒を勉強していきます。
We enjoyed the many other sights of Koedo-Kawagoe, so much like "It's hard to see what is right under your nose."
I will continue my study of sake in Saitama Prefecture.

今月は、埼玉県小川町の酒蔵まつりに行く予定です（前売り券購入済）。
This month, we plan to visit the Sake Brewery Festival in Ogawa-machi, Saitama Prefecture (we have already purchased tickets in advance).
