今日の英語ニュースから [2023.02.13]

この番組には英語字幕がついていますが、誤りや省略が少なくありません。特に週末版は多いのですが、今日も非常に多くの間違いがありました。約３０分の番組ですが、実際に英語音声をすべて聞いて、字幕の誤りを訂正し、ニュース英語や時事英語の独特な表現など気になった語句の説明を加えて、字幕ファイルを作りました（書き加えた説明は[* ] ）。

[18:31] One of the big things that you hear in EV circles is what's called range anxiety. [* range anxiety = 電気自動車の走行可能距離が短いことの不安 range =１回の充電で走ることが出来る距離] The idea that you'll get out on the road and your battery will be drained and you won't have access to a charging station. Except for certain regions in the country, that is still a huge impediment, isn't it?
[19:01] California probably has the highest penetration per capita [* = 普及(率)。浸透(率)] of EV chargers.
[20:21] Something like cobalt is a little more troubling because much of it today comes from Congo, where unfortunately, there are a lot of small, sort of unregulated, what are called artisanal mines [* < an artisanal miner or small-scale miner is a subsistence miner who is not officially employed by a mining company, but works independently, mining minerals using their own resources, usually by hand. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/artisanal_mining] where child labor is a frequent occurrence.
[20:46] And my understanding, too, is that China is the principal manufacturer of these batteries. And I know that the Inflation Reduction Act [* = Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/inflation_reduction_act_of_2022 ] is trying to create a more domestic supply chain.
[21:03] China has really sort of cornered the market [* to corner the market = to monopolize the market 市場を独占する] for the time being as the processor of a lot of these materials that go into a battery.
[21:16] But they're still going to be sourcing a lot of key components that are being processed in Asia, primarily China, South Korea and Japan as well. There is a push to localize [* = to localize （この文脈では、海外に依存していた加工・製造などを）国内に移す] more of that processing and fabrication of those materials.
