リスボン - Lisboa (2) オリエンテ（水族館）〜バイシャ地区

欧州に住んでいると日本の国内旅行ばりに、海外旅行が身近になります。そして子供も同伴となると、ホテルよりもアパートを選びがちになります。洗濯も朝食自炊もできて、荷物も出費も抑えつつ広さは確保できるから。
今回、私たちは中心地からちょっと離れた住宅地で、専用のテラスに温水ジャグジーがついたアパートを借りました。
で、この日の午前中は子供に水遊びさせて、昼から空港のパネル広告を見て子供たちが「行きたい！」と口を揃えた？リスボン水族館へ行くことにしました
地下鉄は手持ちのコンタクトレスカードで乗れます。地下鉄の路線は赤、青、黄、緑の４色で分かりやすい。子供は無料。駅はどこも小綺麗。ただしエレベーターやエスカレーターの装備が少ないので、大荷物ならタクシーが便利です。
人々が身振りや表情を交えて大声で話し合うとこが、なんとなく関西っぽい。聞こえてくるのは知らない言葉（ポルトガル語）だけど、どこでも話しかけるとだいたい英語が通じます。地下鉄のシートは名産のコルクでできていました。
水族館は、空港の近くのオリエンテ駅から、大きなショッピングモールを抜け、海沿いの公園を歩いていったところに建っていました。
あらかじめオンラインで予約していたので並ばず入れましたが、チケット売り場は大行列でした。ヨーロッパ随一というだけあって人気なんだな。
中央の巨大水槽を中心に、ぐるぐる2周する順路で、様々な海洋生物を至近距離で見られる工夫がされています。
ひとつひとつのコーナーが自然環境を模して、生き物たちに十分なスペースを与えている良い作り。ラッコやパフィンが水をはね散らかして遊んでるのが印象的でした。
付属のカフェやお土産物屋さんも、テラスに続く公園も、何となく日本人好みな気がしたのは、有名な日本人デザイナーが水族館の設計にかかわってるらしいことと関係あるのかな。
それから繁華街・バイシャ地区に向かいました。新型トラムに乗ろうとしたら、地元の交通カードか現金しか使えず、念の為に持ってきた少額のキャッシュに助けられました。ロンドンの徹底したキャッシュレスに慣れているとめんどくさい。目的地は、はイストリーの真ん中にある、人気のNata（エッグタルト）のお店。
ほぼ厨房とレジだけのシンプルな店構えですが、エスプレッソも買って、歩行者天国の真ん中のテーブルでサクッと食べました。出来立てのクリームがとろ～りとあたたくて、たしかに美味でした。
観光客の群れの一員になって、賑やかながらどこかおっとりした雰囲気の漂う商店街をぶらぶら歩きました。タイルやコルクのお店にまじって目を引くのが缶詰店。凝った絵柄の缶詰が整然と並び、キラキラしていて、どのお店もテーマパークみたいです。
ただ、このあたりで売っているのは観光客向けのお土産なので、美しいパッケージ代がこってり乗っています。おいしい中身にのみ用がある人はスーパーで買うのがおすすめです。
近くになんか見どころあるかな？と思ったら、リスボン大聖堂が近かったので、見に行きました。
同じキリスト教でも、国によって教会の個性が全然違うんだよね。ローマン・カトリックなはずだけど、南イタリアで見た装飾的な感じとも違い、なんとなくスッキリした石作りの聖堂。ステンドグラスも、色鮮やかなのに、不思議と落ち着いた雰囲気。一方で宝物殿の刺繍の法衣や法具はこれでもかと言うほど細々造り込まれていて絢爛豪華でした。写真禁止で、ご紹介できないのが残念。
夕日が正面の花窓のステンドグラスを通して落とす光が、きれいでした。木のベンチでステンドグラス眺めたり本を読んだりしてずっと過ごせるなって思ったけど、子供が一緒なので、一廻りしたら外に出て公園へ。彼らは遊具が一つあればごきげんです。
夜は、友だちにおすすめしてもらったポルトガル料理のお店に行きました。リスボンは観光客が多いので、絶対行きたいお店は予約していくのが吉です。実は一週間前に予約取ろうとしたら、もうどの日もいっぱいで行きそこねた店もありました。ただ、町中で見かけるレストランはどこでもたいへん美味しそうだったので、時間に縛られず足の向くままに発見を楽しむこととのバランスですかね。
ここはひと目見て美味と判るものばかりだった中で、ワォ感があったのは、以下写真の左上の野菜のストゥルーデルというやつでした。
薄いパリパリの生地のなかに、味付けをしたにんじんやマシュルームなどの温野菜が詰まってて、とにかくはじめて食べる美味しさでさした。香りづけはラム油だったかな。香辛料貿易で隆盛を極めた国なので、いろんなスパイスやハーブの使い方が、深いんだと思いました。お腹いっぱい食べてワイン飲んでデザートつけて、全部美味しいのに安いと感じました。ロンドンだと、塩っぽく油っぽい魚料理に対してでも確実に1.5倍は払うからね。だからロンドンの人たち、リスボンが好きなんですね。

We rented an apartment in a residential area a bit away from the city centre. It had a private terrace and a heated jacuzzi pool.
Travel to countries in Europe from London is like domestic travel in Japan. Also, when travelling with kids, I prefer apartments to hotels. Apartments offer ample space to relax and unwind and allow us to do laundry and cook breakfasts with local supermarket expeditions when we are too tired to hang out. It is also effective for saving with minimum luggage.
This morning, the kids enjoyed the pool while their father worked online. Then, we decided to go to the Lisbon Aquarium, which the kids insisted on going to. The airport's ads did an excellent job.
You can conveniently take the subway with your contactless card (Kids ride for free!). Lisboa's subway lines are easy to understand and four-coloured: red, blue, yellow, and green. I found their seats made of cork. (Did you know that Portugal produces 50% of corks in world wide trade?) Everywhere seems to be clean and tidy. However, there are few elevators and escalators, so taxis may be convenient if you have big bags.
The way local people talk loudly and use a lot of body language reminds me of "KANSAI-JIN"(Japanese, typically in Osaka, is known as chatty and friendly). The language spoken is mostly Portuguese, but English is generally understood if I talk to someone anywhere.
When we arrived at the Aquari, there was a long queue at the ticket booth, but we could get in without waiting with pre-booked online tickets.
I liked the aquarium. It has a central giant tank and circular routes. The design enables visitors to look at various marine life up close, even though each section seems to replicate the natural environment well and give the sea creatures enough space to live happily. I was particularly impressed by the otters and puffins splashing around.
The attached cafe, souvenir shop, and the park somehow have a Japanese-friendly feel. This may be related to the fact that a famous Japanese designer was involved in the aquarium's design.
After that, we headed to the Baixa district, the heart of Lisbon. We tried to get on the new tram and found they only accept Specific Card or Cash. We were grateful for the petty cash we had brought, just in case.
We took a break at a famous Nata (egg tart) cafe, Manteigaria. The simple shopfront only has a kitchen and a counter, but we could get a table in the middle of the pedestrian zone. The freshly baked custard was still warm and soft, and it was delicious.
As one of the hundreds of tourists, we wandered through the lively streets. Among other shops, colourful canneries caught our eye. The cans, with their elaborate designs, were neatly arranged and sparkling, making each shop look like a theme park. However, the things sold here are souvenirs for tourists, so the beautiful packaging comes at a hefty price. You should buy them at the supermarket if you're only interested in the delicious contents.
We noticed that the Lisbon Cathedral was nearby. Although I am not a Christian, I like to see beautiful churches and cathedrals. The Cathedral is supposed to be Roman Catholic, but I found it quite different from the decorative feel I saw in southern Italy. It's a clean-looking stone church. The stained glasses are vividly colourful but, somehow, really calming at the same time. On the other hand, the old embroidered vestments and religious objects in the treasury are elaborately crafted and dazzling.
The evening sun shining through the western flower window turned the white stone floor jewelled and kaleidoscopic. I felt I could spend the whole day sitting on a wooden bench, looking at the stained glass or reading a book, but I was with kids. We went to the park and let them challenge the claiming objects after a while.
At night, we went to a local restaurant where grilled seafood awaited us. Lisbon, a city teeming with tourists, had so many tempting options that we wrestled with the idea of guaranteed seating versus the joy of finding a hidden gem. Ultimately, we can find many cosy tapas bars on every corner of the city, but it may be better to book in advance for popular spots during peak season.
Now Duque is one of the places I would like to visit again. Their use of various spices and herbs. are magical. Most dishes looked delicious at first glance, but the one impressed me was the "vegetable strudel ". It was a thin, crispy pastry filled with seasoned carrots, mushrooms, and other warm vegetables, and it was so delicious that I had never tasted anything like it before. It tasted like flavoured with lamb oil, but I am not sure.
We ate and drank wine and had dessert; it was all delicious and reasonable! In London, I would have to pay 1.5 times as for even poor-quality seafood. Well, that's why many London people loves Lisbom.
