たくさんの花が咲いている。
さまざまな色と形、香り漂う女たち。

どこかしら美しさを認められると　
手足や首をスパスパ切られ　
器に挿され、生け女にされる。

生け女には良質の素材が求められるが　
だから長く生かせるというものでもない。

腕の長さ、ヘソの位置のバランス、
首の傾きや眼差しの方向にも気を使う。

見た目美しければ良いというものでもない。
心情など内面的な表現も欠かせない。

哲学や宗教の意味も考慮する必要があり　
このあたり、生け花との関連が深い。

だが、生け女と生け花は似て非なるもの。
優れた生け女は、人の寿命より長く生きる。

より美しくなりたいという願いだけでなく　
長生きを理由に生け女になる女も多い。

生け女の起源については諸説ある。

ある女が生け花をしていたところ　
過って自分の手首を切り落としてしまった。

いくら切断面を合わせても繋がらない。
しかしながら、捨てるのは惜しい。

これを花器に挿してみたら趣があった。
それから生け女が始まったという説。

誘拐殺人事件の犯人を逮捕したら　
その家の床の間に飾ってあったという説。

地方の葬儀屋が始めたという説もある。

最近では、生け女人気にあやかって　
生け男とか生け犬まであるというが　
なんでもかんでも生ければ良いというものではない。
