【SS】津波

船は流されていた。

計器に教えてもらうまでもない。
それは体感でわかる。

船長は甲板に立ち、遠くへ目を凝らす。
東の水平線の上に黒い断崖が見える。

あんな方角に陸地があるはずはない。
断崖ではない。

あれは波だ。大波。
いや、津波だ。

最大級の大津波だ！

なんという黒さ、大きさだろう。
見る見る高く広く、巨大になってゆく。

両腕をいっぱいに広げた、首のない巨人。
その邪悪な恐ろしい姿。

こんな老船、滝壺の葉っぱだ。
舵もマストもスクリューも、無意味だ。

逃げられない。
完全に手遅れだ。

船が大きく揺れる。
その瞬間････

船長は目を見開いた。

船は少しも揺れていない。
とても静かだ。

夢だったのだ。
びっしょり汗をかいていた。

「津波か」
船長はため息をつき、ゆっくり起き上がる。

壁の小さな丸窓から美しい夜空が見える。
無数の星くずが無邪気に輝いている。

津波どころか、波ひとつ見えない。

海面も、水平線も見えない。
陸地も船も灯台も見えない。

「船長。お目覚めですか」
背後からロボット犬が声をかけてきた。

「ああ。夢を見てね」
「また故郷の夢ですか」

「うん。懐かしかったよ」

船長はため息をつき　
ロボット犬の首輪に触れる。

首輪には小さな地球儀がぶら下がっている。

それをくるくる回しながら　
また船長はため息をつく。

「ああ。どこへ消えてしまったのかな」

Tsunami

Land, ship and lighthouse can not be seen from here.

A robot dog cried from behind.
