開かれて、目下読まれている最中の紙の本は確かに現実に存在する。
Paper books that have been opened and are in the process of being read exist in the world.

窓から差す日の光を受けて、紙の表面の毛羽立ち、というほどでもないが肌理が見えるし、触ることもできる。
With the sunlight through the window, I can see and touch the texture of the paper.

しかし、閉じられて書棚におさまっている本は、ないと思う。
But I don't think that a closed book exists on a shelf.

だが、床の間の掛け軸になった書は常に開かれていて、つねに存在する。

たとえ、住人が不在で、鑑賞者がいなくても、その掛け軸は存在し、世界に開かれている。
Even if there is no inhabitant to appreciate it, the calligraphy exists and is present and open to the world.

つねにアクティブである！
It is always active!

なぜか？　その掛け軸は風景になっているからだ。
Why?　Because the scroll has become a landscape.

風景はもう世界の一部。
The landscape is now a part of the world.

カフスの下の、誰も見ない腕時計が常に時の流れを表し、時の流れそのものであるのと等しくアクティブである。
It is as active as the unseen watch under the cufflinks, which always represents the flow of time, and is time itself.

見るものがいなくても、あるべき場所にあるモノは風景の一部として馴染み、空間に、時間になることができる。
Even if there is no one to see it, the object in its proper place can become a part of the landscape, or time and space.

うらやましい。
I am envious.
