DMM Diary#7

Hello! Welcome to Sorayuki’s vlog. Please enjoy my DMM diary to learn more about other countries and my experience.

Today, I talked with a tutor from Zimbabwe. She and I read an article about the protest in Peru and its effect toward Machu Picchu being closed. We then talked about our nation’s government issues and about the social activities.

She asked me, “I heard Japanese don’t do protests or demonstrations, but is that so?”
I said No.
Actually, some people walks around the facilities of the government. However, compared to other foreign countries like European countries, or the U.S., the generations, also, for the number of people are less. More elder people who have time are doing those protests or demonstrations, I think. Also, I think more people are thinking their voice aren’t much delivered to the policy. Well, there are some politicians that doesn’t come back to Japan. Additionally politicians get so much money and discounts on their transportations. Well it might be a needy for their work but, I think politicians need to show how much they are using or offer how much they need before receiving everything. I just heard of this so, I cannot be certain about this financial situation among politicians but,,,

Well, so the tutor’s perception is quite true different.
And I also asked to her. Then, she said her country don’t have much freedom of speech.

Oh, um. <- me thinking what should I say.

She continued that, “well, it is ok to do protests or demonstrations but, people who do those will be in jail.”

“What that doesn’t make any differences with Chinese government!” I thought. It seems to be the same situation i happening. but I was more shock about how the information access are limited. I hear many things about the situation toward China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. But it was first time for me to hear the Zimbabwean government oppresses the public. Maybe the distance between the country is affecting the curiosity of the citizens or maybe same things is happening as other conflicts. As the time pass, the news or incidents disappears from the interest, especially when those news doesn’t affect one’s living.

Also, she told me how it’s scary to talk about politics with other people. She won’t know who is into the government. Once you criticize them, then the other people who heard of it, will call the police, if he or her are respecting the government. How scary it is. Similar situation was happening in the old time in Japan, too. Especially when there was WWII. How can this situation be changed? Maybe there will be a need of coup d’tat in a good way. Or, in the history every time strong nations have interacted and build new government so, this way might be the case. However it is too dangerous.

Though this lesson, I notice the inequality of information access and the complicate govern system. It is too difficult to address in simple words and I nee to learn more.

Thank you for reading! I hope this will stimulate your minds about politics and cultures in your days.
