英文法学習の謎!?

K: Study grammar! You won't be able to speak English without it!

W: Really? I don't think so.

K: Why not?

W: I've never seen a single person who spoke English well, though they did love studying grammar.

K: Uhm......

W: That happens. There are two kinds of grammar, grammar as explicit knowledge and grammar as implicit knowledge.

K: What's that?

W: Trying to understand grammar rules. This is grammar as explicit knowledge. However, you cannot speak English without thinking about it. If you have implicit grammatical knowledge, you can process English just like you speak your native language, Japanese.

K: That could be true. But grammar is important to learn.

W: I agree with you.

K: Then, why you said that?

W: That's because most people in Japan are only focused on studying grammar, and they don't do other tasks necessary for acquiring English skills.

K: Tell me what!

W: I'm pleased to tell you how, but please remember this.  There is a more important thing than how.

K: What is it?

W: It's the amount of exposure.  Most English learners are not exposed to English enough to be fluent. How much time you spend on English is much more important than how to improve English skills. To realize it, you need to have fun.

K: Sounds interesting. Let me know how, then.

W: I want to tell you, but it takes time. So, I'll let you know little by little.
