#2_なぜ、「茶×外交」なのか？ / Why Tea and Diplomacy?

こんにちは。早速ですが、皆さんは、「茶」「茶道」「茶の湯」と聞いてどんなイメージを連想しますか？

What images do you associate with the words "tea," "the way of tea," and "tea ceremony?"

１） 一般的にイメージされる茶文化の世界 / The world of tea culture as it is commonly conceived

日本では一般的に、上記のようなイメージを連想される方が多いかもしれません。

Many people may associate the tea ceremony with the above image.

2） その本質は、「調和」と「創造」の世界 / a world of harmony and creative creation 

茶は、日本人の精神と美学を凝縮した「日本の総合文化」と言われることがあります。その大きな柱は、次の2つです。

At its essence, the world of harmony and creative creation in tea is sometimes referred to as the "core culture of Japan" because it encapsulates the spirit and aesthetics of the Japanese people. The two main pillars of this culture are as follows:

① 精神性 /Spirituality

「一期一会」「主客一体」という言葉で表現されることも多い「和」の精神は、「人と人をつなぐ思いやり」と「人と、人を取り巻く『自然』との調和」の2軸で捉えることができます。

The spirit of harmony, often expressed in terms of "once-in-a-lifetime meeting" and "master and guest as one," can be understood in terms of a "compassion that connects people to each other" and "harmony between people and the nature that surrounds them."

② 空間認識における美学 / Aesthetics and Spatial Perception

茶とは本来「自由な創造」を許すものです。つまり、「与えられた空間の中でどう独自の世界観を表現するか？」という空間プロデュースの世界ということができます。

Tea is essentially about allowing "free creativity." In other words, it is a question of how to express one's own view of the world within a given space. This is the world of creativity.

3） 私たちが推進する「誰もが楽しめる茶の湯」/ The Sakura Tea Ceremony

現在の茶の湯は「形式」を重視しがちな側面がありますが、本来は「茶を楽しむ心」が一番大切な心得です。そこで、私たちはこれを「茶楽（さくら）」と名付け、この行動指針の下、「相互理解を育む異文化融合の空間」を世界各地で現地の方々と一緒にプロデュースしてまいりました。日本を知っていただくだけでなく、当方も各地の文化を一緒に学べる楽しい空間、まさに一つひとつが世界に一つだけの「一期一会」でした。

Today's tea ceremony tends to focus on formality, but the most important aspect of the tea ceremony is the spirit of enjoying tea. This is why we have named our "Sakura" tea ceremony under this principle, where we have been producing a space of cross-cultural fusion to foster mutual understanding with people from all over the world. Not only do we provide a space for people to learn about Japan, but also to learn about the culture of different regions, making each event a one-of-a-kind, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

上記は過去3年間で達成した世界マップです。新型コロナウィルスで世界に飛ぶことはできなくなりましたが、ただいまオンライン茶会を準備中です（10月末にはご案内できるよう急ピッチで取り組んでいます！下の写真はオンライン茶会に向けた撮影 in 京都嵐山での一コマです🎵）。

Above is the world map detailing our accomplishments in the last three years. Although we can no longer travel around the world due to COVID-19, we are currently preparing for an online tea ceremony. We are working to start promoting this event by the end of October. The photo below shows our preparations in Arashiyama, Kyoto.

4） 素人でも楽しい茶の湯 / be fun even for amateurs

なお、当法人は茶人として65年以上の歩みを持つ小泉宗敏先生の指導を受けていますが、創業代表の河合は「政治マーケティング」が専門であり、茶に関しては、3年前に小泉先生と出会うまでは興味も持っていなかった「素人」です。

The tea ceremony can be fun even for amateurs. Akiko Kawai, the founder and President of our organization, specializes in political marketing and was not interested in tea until she met Professor Koizumi three years ago.

また事務局メンバーも、「茶ってそんなに面白いの？」と興味を持ち、仲間に加わりました（もちろん「茶の湯外交」が目指すビジョンに共感したからですが🎵）。

Some people may wonder, "Is tea really that interesting?" I was intrigued and joined the group, because I shared the vision that tea diplomacy aims to achieve.
