英語が話せるようになりたい中学生へ｜PeppaPigリスニング② 「スーパーでお買物」の巻
「英語を話せるようになりたい」という思いに対して、学校英語で不足しているのが、ごくごく自然な英語に触れる機会。英語圏の英語を、見て聴いて、話してみる機会が本当に少ないのです。
レベルが合っている内容であっても、普通に英語圏で使われている本物英語を実際に耳にすると、最初はなんだかよくわからないのが普通です。それでも、耳を大きく開いて聴いて、わかる部分をピックアップして、勘を使ってトライしていくにつれて「理解してみよう」とする感覚が身につきます。だんだんわかるようになってくると、今度は、聴いた英語を真似して使ってみようとする感覚がついてきます。五感が鋭い小中高生に身には、ぜひともこの感覚を身につけてほしいと思います。
「感覚」と「センス」、この見えない力を育てるためには「普通で自然な本物英語」に触れてみる機会を積極的に取り入れることが大事。ただ何でもじゃんじゃん見聞きすればいいわけではなく、難しすぎず簡単すぎない「今の自分のレベル+１」くらいのちょうどいいレベルが肝心です。
中学で学ぶ英語が実際にふんだんに使われているPeppaPigは、シンプル英語を一連の会話の中で耳にできるですお勧めの教材です。その中でも、よりわかりやすいものだけを厳選してますので、小中学生のA1〜A2くらいの英語学習に取り入れてみていただければ嬉しく思います。（初めての方は１本目からどうぞ♪）
進め方
いつもと同じように、こんな感じで👇進めてみましょう：
① まず１回そのまま見てみる。
② YouTubeで英語の字幕を出して、速度を0.75にして見てみる。
③ 単語説明も含まれるスクリプトを読んでみる。
④ 理解度に合わせて、通常スピードかX0.75の速度で改めて見てみる。回数を重ねるにつれて聞き取れる範囲が増してくるので３回がお勧め。絵に色を塗り重ねていくイメージで、回数とともにぼんやりした内容がシャープになっていきます。

[Daddy Pig] You are too big for the trolly, Peppa. But you could help with the shopping.
[Peppa] Oh goody.
[Mummy Pig] We've got four things on the list.
[Daddy Pig] Tomatoes, spaghetti, onions and fruit.
[Peppa] I'll find it all.
[Peppa] This way.
[Narrator] Peppa and George loves shopping.
[Mummy Pig] Peppa, first we need tomatoes.
[Peppa] I can see them. I can see them. Here are the tomatoes, mummy.
[Mummy Pig] Well done, Peppa.
[Peppa] One, two, three, four.
[Mummy Pig] Now put them in the trolly.
[Peppa] I found the tomatoes.

[Mummy Pig] What fruit shall we have George? Apples?
[Daddy Pig] Oranges?
[Peppa] Bananas? A melon!
[Narrator] This is the checkout where all the food is paid for.
[Cashier] Tomatoes, spaghetti, onions, melon, chocolate cake.
[Everyone] Chocolate cake?

文法メモ: Uncountable nouns（不可算名詞）
このエピソードで登場したFruitとSpaghettiは、Uncountable（数えられない名詞）と分類されていて、常に単数系を使い、一般的には複数形は使いません。イメージを掴むのが難しいのですが、数字で数えられなかったり、抽象的だったり、小さすぎたり（小麦粉・米）、形がないくて数えられないもの（水・牛乳などの液体やガス）です。「うーむ、よくわからないけど、英語にはこういう考え方があるのだな・・・」と頭の片隅においておけばOKです👍
