今日取り上げるのは…

When they reached the mansion in which the Town Mouse lived, they found on the table in the dining room the leavings of a very fine banquet.

英文は、だれが→どうする→何をといった順番で並んでいます。
意味のかたまりで区切って、日本語を当ててから、解説にとんでみてください。

それでは、説明していきたいと思います。

When they reached the mansion / in which the Town Mouse lived, / they found / on the table / in the dining room / the leavings of a very fine banquet.
彼らが邸宅に着いたとき / 都会のネズミが住んでいる / 彼らは見つけた / テーブルの上に / ダイニングルームの / とても立派な宴会の残り物を

ここも、when … lived と並行して、誰が何をしているのか？というと they found… banquet と読んでいくとよいと思います。

found の後には、on the table と in the dining room の2つの前置詞句が並んでいて、その後に目的語となる the leavings of a very fine banquet が登場します。

場所についての意味のかたまりが2つ続いていますが、テーブルの上、そのテーブルはどこにあるのか？というように空間が小から大へと並んでいることに注目しましょう！
