Dear Saki 

I haven't seen you for a long time.
How are you getting along ? 
I am fine, thank you. 

お久し振りです。お元気ですか？
私は相変わらずです。

One day when we were studying English, we got together after school and wrote many words similar to  "instinct" on the blackboard.  

英語を勉強していた頃、放課後会って、黒板に「本能」と似た言葉をたくさん書こうとしたことがありましたね。

You wrote "animal" or something. To tell you the truth, what you wrote was all Greek to me. 

サキは「動物」とか何か書いたね。正直に言えば、サキの書いたことは、ちんぷんかんぷんだったんだ。

To hear the word "instinct," what comes to my mind is, first of all, "intuition."
Secondly, "insight."
Thirdly, "something innate." That is to say "hunch" or "perception." 

「本能」と聞くと、僕が真っ先に思い浮かべる言葉は「直感」。つぎに「洞察力」。そのつぎに来るのが「生得的な何か」。つまり、「虫の知らせ」とか「感覚」。

What is the meaning of "animal" ? 
「動物」って言われましても😳💦。
