湖上の浮御堂を守る松、龍の如く。 【松 シリーズⅢ】 A pine tree that protects Ukimido on the lake, like a dragon.

琵琶湖大橋を渡り堅田方面へ数キロ走ると湖上に浮く「浮御堂(うきみどう)」が見えてくる。堅田地域の湖岸は、風光明媚なところとして人気の観光スポットになっている。

Cross the Lake Biwa Ohashi and drive for several kilometers toward Katata, and you will see Ukimido on the lake. The lakeshore of the Katata area is a popular tourist spot as a scenic spot.

「堅田の落雁」は近江八景の一つとして歌川広重が描いている。その絵にあるように、湖上に突き出ている浮御堂が目をひく。ちなみに堅田の落雁とは、浮御堂付近の湖上に雁の群れが舞い降りる情景のことをいう。

Hiroshige Utagawa describes "Katata no Rakugan" as one of the eight views of Omi. As you can see in the picture, the Ukimido protruding above the lake gets a lot of looks. By the way, the goose of Katata is a scene where a group of gooses descend on the lake near Ukimido.

　阿弥陀像千体  /  thousand golden Amidabha Buddha statues

浮御堂は、平安時代に海門山満月寺の本堂として建立された。お堂には1寸8分(5㎝強)の黄金の阿弥陀仏像千体が安置されており、魚類殺生供養として一体より二体、三体と数多く仏像を作ることに功徳があるという「多数功徳作善信仰」によるものである。残念ながら湖畔に沈む夕陽をバックにした浮御堂は見ることはできなかったが、さぞかし美しい風景だろうと想像する。

Ukimido was built as the main hall of Kaimonsan Mangetsu-ji Temple during the Heian period. There are a thousand golden Amidabha Buddha statues of 1 sun 8 bu (more than 5㎝) in the hall, and it is worthwhile to make a large number of Buddha statues as two or three bodies as a sacrifice memorial service for fish. This is the merit of good work. Unfortunately, I couldn't see Ukimido against the setting sun on the lake, but imagine it would be a beautiful landscape.

石廊を覆う松  / The pine tree that covered the stone corridor

浮御堂もさることながら目をひいたのが、石廊に覆い被さっている松。浮御堂を守るために龍の如く見えてくるから不思議だ。陸からの、石廊に被さる松、そして湖上に浮いているかのように見えるお堂の景色は絶景である。
さらに、境内にある松も見事の一言である。いままでに見たことのない松の枝。龍の尻尾のように見える。10m以上も横に伸びている。圧巻としかいいようがない。

The pine tree that covered the stone corridor was the one that caught my eye as well as Ukimido. It is strange because it looks like a dragon to protect Ukimido. The view from the land of the pine trees over the stone corridors and the hall that appears to be floating on the lake is superb.
In addition, the pine in the precincts is a wonderful word. Pine branch never seen before. Looks like a dragon's tail. It extends more than 10m horizontally. It can only be a masterpiece.

水の神仏としての龍を、松の形姿に例えているのを随所に見かける。それを眺めるのもまた旅が楽しくなる。

You can see the dragon as a water god and Buddha all over the shape of a pine. Looking at it also makes the trip fun.
