神仏習合のなごり。 【高野山シリーズⅢ】 The traces of an eclectic between Shinto and Buddhist doctrines

明治元年、政府から出された「神仏判然令(神仏分離)」までの約千年は「神仏習合」という信仰体系をとっていた。神道と仏教、神と仏、神社と寺院が融合していた。

In the first year of the Meiji era, about 1,000 years before the “Shinto and Buddhist obvious decree (separation of Shinto and Buddha)" issued by the government, the belief system called "Shinto and Buddhist eclectic" was adopted. Shinto and Buddhism, God and Buddha, shrines and temples were fused.

明治維新後、神仏判然令によって分離したものの、いまでもその痕跡を見るとこができるのが高野山奥の院の参道付近。弘法大師御廟までの参道には、それは数多くの戦国大名などの墓石や供養塔に鳥居が建てられている。まさに神仏習合時代の名残である。

After the Meiji Restoration, the temple was separated by obvious decree of Shinto and Buddhism, but the traces can still be seen near the approach to Koyasan Oku-no-in. On the approach to the Kobo Daishi Mausoleum, there are many tombstones and memorial towers built on the tombstones of Sengoku Daimyo. It is truly a remnant of the Shinto and Buddhism tradition.

写真で見てお分かりのように時間(とき)の経過を感じさせる雰囲気がある。不思議な空気をもつ自然界をつくり上げている。スタジオジブリ作品に出てきそうな背景を思わせる。日常世界では想像もできないストーリーが生まれてきそうである。
違和感があるものの、その当時の現象がいまも存在する不思議な山上の聖地である。

As you can see in the picture, there is an atmosphere that makes you feel the flow of time. Creating a natural world with a mysterious atmosphere. This is the background that seems to appear in Studio Ghibli works. It seems that a story that cannot be imagined in the everyday world will be born.
Although it feels strange, it is a mysterious sanctuary on the mountain where the phenomena of that time still exist.
