2024/06/19「筆箱」"Pencil case"

夏の日差しが窓から差し込む部屋で、小学生の少年は机に向かって宿題をしていた。宿題のプリントに集中しようとするが、なかなか進まない。外から聞こえるセミの鳴き声が、何となく彼の気持ちをそわそわさせている。

部屋の隅に置かれた扇風機が静かに回り、心地よい風を送ってくれる。彼は一度手を止めて、机の上に並べられた鉛筆や消しゴムを見つめた。ふと、視線が昔使っていた筆箱に止まる。それは母親から譲り受けた、彼にとってとても大切なものだった。

筆箱を手に取り、そっと開けると、中には色とりどりの鉛筆が整然と並んでいた。どの鉛筆も少しずつ使われて短くなっているが、その一本一本には思い出が詰まっていた。彼はその筆箱を見るたびに、母親が自分に教えてくれた言葉を思い出す。「大切に使えば、ものは心を持つんだよ」と。

その筆箱を握りしめると、不思議と心が温かくなった。母親の優しい笑顔が目に浮かび、彼は自然と微笑んだ。宿題に戻ろうとするが、筆箱の中にある一つの鉛筆に目が止まる。それは特別な鉛筆で、母親が初めて彼に買ってくれたものだ。

彼はその鉛筆を手に取り、机の上の白い紙に線を引いた。その瞬間、何かが心の中で弾けた。母親のぬくもりを感じながら、彼は再び宿題に集中することができた。鉛筆の先が紙の上を滑る音が心地よく響き、彼の心を和ませた。

外のセミの声は変わらず聞こえるが、今度はそれが彼の心をそわそわさせるのではなく、心を落ち着ける音楽のように感じられた。夏の日差しも心地よく感じられ、彼は筆箱を大切に抱きしめながら、宿題を終えることができた。

その夜、彼は筆箱を枕元に置いて眠りについた。母親のぬくもりを感じながら、夢の中で彼は母親と一緒に笑っていた。あの筆箱が、彼の心を温かく包み込んでくれたのだ。

On a summer day, a young boy sat at his desk doing homework. The sunlight streamed through the window, and the sound of cicadas outside made him restless. A fan gently blew a comforting breeze in the corner of the room. He paused, looking at the pencils and erasers on his desk. His eyes fell on an old pencil case, a cherished gift from his mother.

Opening the pencil case, he saw the colorful pencils, each one shorter from use, filled with memories. His mother's words echoed in his mind, "If you take good care of things, they have a heart." Holding the pencil case warmed his heart, and he smiled at the thought of his mother's kind face.

He picked up a special pencil, the first his mother had bought him, and drew a line on the paper. A burst of warmth filled him, and he focused on his homework again. The pencil's sound on the paper was soothing, and he felt at ease. The cicadas' song, once distracting, now felt like a calming melody. He completed his homework, holding the pencil case close, feeling the summer sun's comfort.

That night, he placed the pencil case by his pillow and fell asleep, dreaming of laughing with his mother. The pencil case wrapped him in warmth, reminding him of his mother's love.
